Rustic neighborhood cafe made famous by its chou creme. The chou creme consists of two separate pastry portions—like the crown and heel of a bun—with two distinct creams inside: a darker yellow custard and a more typical white cream on top. Unlike many chou cremes, the filling is not dense or heavy; it's fluffy, airy, and light with a well-balanced sweetness. The pastry is soft, though it could be a bit firmer, as its texture is more similar to what you'd find in a supermarket or convenience store. Regardless, Copain's chou creme is consistently reviewed as one of the best in Tokyo and is very much worth a visit for any pastry lover.
View on GoogleAs a foreigner, I don’t expect store staff to know my language. As a customer, I would appreciate some direction as to where to sit and how to order. I’ve been to many restaurants during my time in Japan that are not proficient in English but they at least acknowledge your presence as a paying customer. Here I was left to roam the shop waiting for some direction, so weird. The interiors nice though! Go to Coffee Kan up to road for great service and better food 😽
View on GoogleThe cake set is a great deal if you're looking for an affordable sweet treat + drink. I paid ~750 yen for a latte and pastry, which were both fairly tasty. The pastry had two different cream textures inside, and the bready part was very light and easy to eat. The atmosphere is chill and quiet, so I think anyone can comfortably read or relax here. Plus, it's right on Kagurazaka's main street where there's lots to do. I will definitely come back!
