View on GoogleA Western-style restaurant on a back street halfway up 神楽坂, known for its handmade bread. It has a relaxed, bistro-like atmosphere with rows of wood-grain tables. An experienced staff member showed me to my seat, and it was almost full of customers with reservations, showing how popular it is. The menu offered several options based on the salad, main dish, and amount of bread. I ordered 【Aセット クリームシチュー(チキン)】1,480円【パン少量(3種)おかわり】300円+drinks. The salad arrived first after about 5 minutes. It had simple ingredients—lettuce, mizuna, and onion—but the tangy, peppery dressing went beautifully with them and tasted delicious. Meanwhile, the bread finished baking and was distributed to each table. The first 4 varieties were chosen by the restaurant, including some not on the menu. The 「ガーリック塩パン」 in particular had a lightly garlicky, salty flavor that was delicious on its own, with alcohol, or with the stew that came later. I ordered additional curry bread, baguette, and cream bread. Naturally, they were fragrant and freshly baked. The baguette had just the right firmness and plenty of wheat aroma; the curry balanced spice with the sweetness of its ingredients, while the cream was lightly sweet and rich with milky flavor and aroma. Getting all this for 300円 is a miracle. The main cream stew was served on a flat plate, with plenty of chicken and simmered vegetables such as broccoli and carrots. It was very creamy, mellow, and gentle in flavor, though personally I would have liked a little more salty punch. Still, bread is the star here, so perhaps the dishes are designed not to interfere with its flavor and savoriness. The warm atmosphere and service of the staff warmed my heart and made me certain I wanted to return. Next time I'll definitely come back for the beef stew.
View on GoogleA Western-style restaurant in 見番横丁 where bread is the star at lunch. It gets plenty of media coverage, so there are often queues, and reservations are available too. The chef used to be a baker. I don't know which bakery he worked at, but he clearly cares deeply about bread. He's so enthusiastic and kind when explaining each variety that his passion really comes through. And the bread is incredibly delicious. Freshly baked bread is served in its best condition to match the menu. This time I chose Aセット (contents: salad, 4 varieties of homemade bread, chicken cream stew) 1480円. All 4 breads were delicious, while the chicken cream stew tasted perfectly ordinary and left no particular impression. An ordinarily tasty stew, I'd say. The ガーリック塩パン and 明太子とマッシュポテトパン were exquisite, and I wished they offered takeaway bread on its own.
