If you’re looking for the traditional kissaten vibes, this is 100% the place. Beautiful collection of cups, wonderful decor, and friendly staff! All just next to Shinjuku station, while being super chilled like you’ve been transported somewhere else for a moment. The bathroom hidden behind a bookshelf is an absolute bonus. The only reason it’s not 5 🌟 is that it’s pretty expensive. Understandable, but still a fact to consider.
View on GoogleOne of the most special things about Tokyo, and Japan in general, is that there still exists little gems that have survived modernity... One of my favorites is that there are these great little vintage cafes that are sit-down affairs which aren't about rushing out with a generic venti whatever, but about enjoying life a little more. This easily missed basement gem is one of these places. The atmosphere in this coffee lair is perfect halcyon magic and the coffee that is served every bit a match. The staff are professional and welcoming. It will all leave you a better person. But it's not for those in a rush. This place, and these sorts of places, are for those of us who want to take a break from that madness, even if just for thirty minutes.
View on GoogleThe tea is nice, but the cake is better. It's really light in the mouth and delicious. The atmosphere also brings you out of Shinjuku. It's a place to have intimate conversations. You will find peace in here. Dim-lit, surrounded by antiques and toilet hidden behind the bookshelf. Your dark-academia core if you squint. The downside is, is quite expensive. I see people go here for quality time. So if you're in Japan with a budget, do check the menu before you order. Also, because of the intimate distance between chairs and tables within the cafe, you must mind your posture and your belongings so they won't bother other customers. And the owners/employees do remind you if your space is intruding others!
View on GoogleWent there without checking menu (my fault) and just realised that the cheapest coffee will cost for 1700Yen. They used a very antique coffee cup and the coffee taste okay? Also, the coffee portion is crazy large and I think personally that’s for 2 servings as they are using a soup bowl to serve yet they not allowed to share and mandatory for everyone to buy a drink. The seating and aisle is very narrow and dark. They used wood partition to separate a few section of a big table. Also, you can’t change your seat even you already told them that the seat area was cold. They finally willing to change after I told them for multiple times. The price of the strawberry cake was not same as what the online menu stated, is not 1000 yen but 1700 yen. For me, definitely not worth it as usually cup of coffee cost less than 1000 yen with or without milk. Also no photo allowed.
View on Google(My fault didn’t check the price)Very Expensive price, Cake 1700¥, Coffee 1800¥ per serve, cup of tea 1800¥ and minimum 1 person 1 order at least. The taste just ordinary. Never come back again.
