A classic retro Showa-decor okonomiyaki restaurant in the back streets of Shinjuku. Absolutely delicious food and friendly service - very affordable, too. It's tight fit, so expect to be packed in (and I wouldn't advise bringing kids).

For an authentic Japanese dining experience Buchiumaya is the perfect choice. It’s a small izakaya off the beaten track that specialises in okonomiyaki. If you are lucky enough like us to sit at the counter you can see them cooking. The okonomiyaki is different to what you find in Osaka. It’s Hiroshima style, less “batter” and more filling. Noodles being the core ingredient with a multitude of toppings. We started with an appetiser which was egg with soybeans sandwiched in the middle. It was topped by a sweet and savoury sauce. Followed by a okonomiyaki. Portions are generous, service is friendly and welcoming. Would recommend booking, though we were lucky enough to do a walk in.

We ate here for our last big meal in Japan, and it was a perfect send off. We were gratefully slotted in before a bigger reservation party so it was a bit quick, but the atmosphere here feels authentic and charming. The okonomiyaki was absolutely delicious with slightly crispy noodles!

Even though it’s tucked away from the station, every seat was reserved — I couldn’t help but wonder what makes it so loved From my counter seat, I had a lovely chat with the friendly owner The noodles for their signature Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki are brought in straight from Hiroshima, and their grilled squid is so fresh it could be eaten raw The menu isn’t large, but every dish feels honest, thoughtful, and delicious

Authentic meal and the place. My first time for okonomiyaki. This place is just 20 m from my service apartment. Always the long line waiting. Lucky, this evening seems there were 2 spot by the cooking station. So we grab the chance. Very enjoy with the food and atmosphere. We order the recommended dish- with rice cake ( mochi) and cheese , squid grilled with soy and kimchi.. love it. We will return again and try other menu ☺️.
