I have been trying to come here on my previous two visits to Tokyo over the years, but it was full both tines. I showed up right when it opened this time and made it in. You need to buy a drink once per hour to keep your spot. Staff is very friendly here. The Doctor Mario cocktail in a beaker was a great concept. There is a lot of gaming memorabilia here. I would come back here again, but make sure to get here early.
View on GoogleFor anyone who considers themselves a gamer, 8-bit Cafe is an absolute must-visit destination in Shinjuku. It's the perfect antidote to the chaotic, neon-drenched streets outside, offering a cozy, intimate, and profoundly nostalgic escape. This place is truly one of a kind. It’s small, unpretentious, and dedicated entirely to the golden age of video games. The walls are lined with vintage consoles and memorabilia, and the tables are equipped with classic machines ready to play—think Famicom, Super Famicom, and Nintendo 64. It’s an interactive museum where you’re encouraged to pick up a controller and challenge your friends (or the friendly staff) to a round of Mario Kart or Street Fighter. The owner and staff are incredibly welcoming, often chatting with patrons about gaming history and Japanese culture. The atmosphere is relaxed, making it easy to settle in for hours. While they offer standard drinks, the real fun is ordering one of their themed cocktails, which often have clever gaming references. Whether you're looking to unwind after a long day of sightseeing, meet fellow gamers, or simply bask in the warm glow of CRT screens and 8-bit music, 8-bit Cafe delivers. It feels less like a bar and more like hanging out in a cool friend’s retro game room. Don’t miss it!
View on GoogleJust straight up good vibes, it had some games here and there, mixed drinks were pretty good! You come here for the atmosphere and service! 😁
View on GoogleCute little bar, but really nothing to do there. It’s all about the atmosphere would not recommend if you’re going there to play retro games. It’s more place to hang out and drink.
View on GoogleGetting can be challenging because of the stairs, but the owner of this very nice and speaks English well. As he works alone, it can be a little slow sometimes when it is crowded. They have variety of interesting drink menus ( alcohol and non alcohol) with unique video game names! There is an 500 yen extra charged and drinks starts from 600 yen above. The concept of video games is very interesting. If you like old video games council and likes drinking, this place is a must visit for your experience. I would recommend you to come here with a friend or two, although going solo was not a bad experience too. They open Friday, Saturday, Sunday (make sure to check their twitter account before you go here).
