Wonderful. Charming. Husband and wife run and owned. A hidden local spot with small plates to share and drinks. The clams are SO GOOD.
View on GoogleIt's a bit over a 10-minute walk from Gotanda Station, so access isn't great, but it's a thriving restaurant. This place has been in business here for 25 years. It's run by a married couple who chat with you, so you can have a fun time. The menu has the date written on it, so it seems to change every day. The focus is on fish dishes, and you can enjoy authentic flavors like sashimi and grilled fish. That day I chose shima-aji. It was listed as 1400 yen and up, so I'm not sure of the exact price, but it came out in quite a generous portion, and the shima-aji was a big one, so it was really satisfying. The gizzard and long green onion aemono was different from what I'd imagined, but its strong flavor made it perfect with drinks. And then the hire katsu. This was truly delicious. Until now I'd always pictured an 1800-yen hire katsu as dry and tough, but I was amazed at how tender it was, tender enough to cut with chopsticks. It's well seasoned beforehand, so rather than pouring sauce on it, I'd like you to first try it as is. Partway through I asked for some salt to try, and it goes really well. You can really enjoy the flavor of the meat, and the batter has a very light texture with no greasiness. Truly delicious. If there were a rice set in the 500-yen range to order with it as a set meal, I think it would sell well. It tastes like a lot of time and effort went into it. The Daisen jidori chicken was also wonderful in flavor itself. It's Shinanoya after all, it seems. No wonder it's a popular place in Gotanda and loved by locals. I'd been curious about it but had never gone in, and it seems it was absolutely the right call. Even more eye-opening is the wide range of alcohol. With a lineup that probably tops 100, you'll have a hard time choosing. Looking for and trying brands you don't usually drink is also a nice way to enjoy it. It wasn't noisy, time flowed slowly, and it turned out to be a really great time. Thank you for the meal!
View on GoogleLast night after a long day, we pushed open the door of this restaurant. A wonderful and warm discovery. The language barrier doesn't stand a chance against open minds. Thank you for this lovely moment.
View on GoogleIt's a bit of a walk from Gotanda Station. The nearest station is probably Osaki-Hirokoji. It's a hideaway quietly tucked behind TOC, in a spot that makes you go "Here, of all places?" The name modestly says "home cooking," but every dish is high-level! The interior is mostly counter seating, but there are tables too. It's a cozy little space, and the comfort explains why there are so many regulars. The must-order recommendation here is the hire katsu! First, that "crunch" of the freshly fried batter is irresistible. And the meat is surprisingly tender, just the best. They have a wide range of sake too, and even if you don't know much, they'll recommend something if you tell them your preferences. The grilled fish is a must too. There are lots of kinds, so it's best to ask for the day's recommendation and order. We also ordered the sashimi platter, and it was a hit too. Seriously thick slices, and one bite tells you how fresh it is. Since the food is made carefully, it comes out a bit slowly, but the wait isn't bad either. Credit cards were accepted. I'm definitely coming back here. Found a great place.
View on GoogleA highly recommended place where you can casually enjoy delicious Japanese food and drinks. I think it's perfect for when you want a relaxed meal with someone close you haven't seen in a while, or for a first date. The atmosphere is casual. The lighting isn't dimmed; it's on the bright side. The seats aren't partitioned, so the tables and counter can see each other. True to the name "home cooking," it feels close to a home atmosphere. However, in terms of clientele and vibe, it's not noisy; it's calm. The food is home-style cooking centered on Japanese cuisine, such as sashimi, fried dishes, grilled dishes, and hot pots. Everything is delicious, made with ingredients and cooking methods the owner is particular about. Many dishes showcase careful work, and thanks to that, there's a reassurance that whatever you eat will be delicious. For drinks, they have a lineup of delicious sake, shochu, wine, gin, and more. I'm sure you'll find something you like. For a place this size, it's very good and rare: the drink selection is extensive. Because I want to try all kinds of drinks, it makes me want to go again and again. The sake and shochu selection is especially extensive. There aren't many kinds of wine or gin, but the ones they have are good. Overall, I recommend it. It's a casual place to enjoy delicious food and drinks, so it's good for a meal with people you're close to. Also, thanks to the casual atmosphere, I think it's a place where even people who aren't that close yet can let their guard down, so it's perfect for a first date too.
