Just had a dinner, the place was a bit crowded but not making you have to queue. I ordered tonkatsu, the meat is thick, tender, & very crispy outside which means it's very delicious! I love it :) lots of cabbage, some pasta with mustard sauce, you can add asditional sauce & mayo to suit your taste. In terms of price the set meal is ¥1.3k so it's not that expensive, normal for Tokyo. Maybe next time I'll the the other dish, looks very appealing. Dont mixed it up with tonki tonkatsu in Meguro,, lol

View on GoogleYou'll laugh at the thickness. You'll be amazed by the tenderness. Before I knew it, I'd even drunk up all the curry. I regret ever thinking, "Katsu curry at a tonkatsu shop?" One bite and you'll immediately understand why it's been loved in Nishi-Gotanda for so many years. I went to "Tonkin" in Nishi-Gotanda. The interior has the vibe of an old-school neighborhood tonkatsu shop, unpretentious and easy to walk into. It's a popular spot that gets busy at lunchtime with nearby office workers and regulars. This time I ordered the katsu curry. The moment it was served, the first thing that caught my eye was the sheer presence of the tonkatsu. "Whoa, that's thick." It's so thick I almost said it out loud, yet the batter is light and crispy. Take a bite, and the inside is perfectly cooked with a hint of pink left, and the juices and umami burst out. This is no sidekick to the curry. This tonkatsu is fully lead-role material. The curry is the old-fashioned European style. The spices aren't too strong; it wins you over with richness and umami, so it pairs perfectly with the tonkatsu. Even when you coat the crispy batter generously in curry, it doesn't get heavy, and you can eat to the end without getting bored. As I ate, resetting my palate with the cabbage on the side, I'd finished it all in no time. Looking at the menu on the wall, the drinks are reasonably priced too. At night, having a drink with tonkatsu as a snack and finishing with a set meal seems like a nice way to enjoy it too. These days there are more and more photogenic tonkatsu shops, but long-established places like this that compete on taste alone are still strong. "I want to eat good tonkatsu." On days when I think that, this is definitely a place I'd want on my list. Thank you for the meal!
View on GoogleWalked in and: garlic! Such a strong garlic smell lol I went in thinking it was a tonkatsu shop but probably not lol Were even half the people ordering tonkatsu? I should've asked for their recommendation… At night it's more like an izakaya and it seems you can smoke inside Pretty rare these days, right? The sauce also tastes more like it's meant for the garlic dishes than for tonkatsu I think they should just rename it the Garlic Shop, yep, no doubt about it The tonkatsu was a huge 250g portion Thank you for the meal
View on GoogleWhen my office was in Gotanda I came for lunch every week, but this is my first visit in 2 years since moving to Mita. It was right after opening, so I got a seat right away. Wednesday is menchi katsu and ginger pork. Delicious as always, and the portions are as big as ever. I was satisfied. The next week I had the chicken katsu and ginger pork, and the week after that, the loin katsu. And the fillet katsu too. Next time I'm aiming for Tuesday. I just can't make it on Tuesdays. I also had Monday's katsu curry.
