Really Cheap Conger Eel Set One Of The House Specialities Soba Being The Other Conger Eel Tempura On Rice 🍚 Pickle And Choice Of Miso Soup Or Soba Noodles 1550 Yen Or £8 Family Run Shop Server Was 78 And The Shop Was Open By Her Grandparents So Has Been Family Run For Over 90 Years Amazing
View on GoogleTendon at a historic soba shop. The anago tendon promoted on the banners is 1700円 with mini soba. Two large, moist-fried pieces of conger eel, plus green pepper and eggplant. The sauce covers everything evenly but is surprisingly light and mild; the oil, though, is quite heavy. I was grateful for the nukazuke pickles between bites. The soba is ordinary and slightly soft, with strong bonito stock and plenty of green onion, giving it a nostalgic feel, almost as if I were eating New Year's Eve soba. An established shop founded 72 years ago, with an incredibly subdued atmosphere that feels Showa-era but also evokes the Edo-period Tokaido. A deeply rooted local shop.
View on GoogleI wandered over to the Tokaido around Samezu. I stopped in because it advertised its specialty anago tendon. Two pathetic pieces of conger eel (one cut in half), vegetables, and mini soba, all for 1700円. I doubt I'll ever return. It seems to have been around a long time, but for a soba shop, neither the tempura nor the soba suited my taste. The stock was delicious. I'm surprised they're managing with this. The other dishes might be good.
View on GoogleI had something to do in Samezu and wasn't sure what to have for lunch. After looking up various options, I found that the anago tendon here was famous, so I visited. The place has the look of a long-established shop, and the delivery motorbikes outside feel nostalgic too. Ah, there are still places like this in Tokyo. It was lunchtime on a weekday, Monday. The shop was bustling with regulars. I ordered the anago tendon. They said I could choose miso soup or mini soba, so I chose mini soba. The set came with two large pieces of conger eel, eggplant and green pepper tempura, pickles, simmered taro, and mini soba. The conger eel was thick and meaty, with a properly crisp fry, and delicious. It was surprisingly filling too, and my stomach was satisfied. The regulars were ordering soba, curry nanban, ginger pork, and so on—orders that showed they knew the place. The ginger pork and curry nanban in particular looked delicious. If I have another chance to visit Samezu, I'd like to order ginger pork or something similar.
View on GoogleThis year, 2026, marks 75 years since this long-established shop was founded. It was a lovely, quiet place along the Tokaido serving 100% buckwheat soba with an honest, straightforward flavor.
