We thoroughly enjoyed eating here! The ambience was authentic Japanese and the staff were super friendly! They had no English menu, however between Google translate, the photos on the menu and the help from our charming waitress, we figured it out. It is an izakaya, so you can taste a bit of everything, like Tapas.
View on GoogleI visited Marutomi Suisan Meguro and had the Marutomi Large Catch Seafood Rice Bowl with assorted fresh seafood, and it’s probably one of the best chirashi bowls I’ve ever had! The bowl was filled with a generous assortment of seafood, including slices of fresh tuna, salmon, yellowtail, mackerel, and even uni (sea urchin), all resting on a bed of perfectly seasoned rice. There were also small pieces of crab, scallops, and sea bream, each one incredibly fresh and bursting with flavor. The combination of sashimi-grade fish and perfectly seasoned rice was just incredible. When you walk in, you’ll notice that the entire menu is in Japanese, and the staff only speaks Japanese—there are no English translations, which adds to the authentic, local experience. There’s usually a long queue outside, and it’s easy to see why. The restaurant focuses on selling only fresh catch, never farmed seafood, ensuring top-quality ingredients. The prices are relatively in line with market rates, but for the quality and freshness, it’s definitely worth it. If you’re looking for a truly authentic Japanese experience, where the focus is on fresh, high-quality seafood, I highly recommend this place. It’s a simple, no-frills spot that lets the food speak for itself. Whether you’re a fan of seafood or just looking for a local, off-the-beaten-path dining experience, Marutomi Suisan is a must-visit.
