Introducing タンメンwithCセット for 1,090円 at the neighborhood Chinese restaurant 中華そば福本屋 in 京急・鮫洲. I trudged around for about 10 minutes looking for lunch from 品川シーサイド駅, where I'd come on an errand. With no restaurants in sight, this neighborhood Chinese place appeared like an oasis amid my despair. Among the menus covering the walls, the Cセット caught my eye: half a portion of stir-fried vegetables, half a portion of rice, and ramen. To make up for my usual lack of vegetables, I asked to change the ramen to タンメン. The タンメン came piled with cabbage, carrots, bean sprouts, onion, garlic chives, and pork belly, accompanied by stir-fried vegetables with almost the same ingredients. Add rice far too generous to seem like a half portion, and that's the Cセット. The vegetables in the タンメン are quickly stir-fried over high heat, retaining just the right crunch. The light salt-based soup is gently seasoned. Delicious. It feels like, “This is exactly what タンメン should be!” The noodles are slightly soft, chewy, medium-thick Chinese noodles, typical of a neighborhood Chinese restaurant. The stir-fried vegetables seem to use almost the same ingredients as the タンメン, but the carrots are cut differently and there are no garlic chives. Is that rich aroma from lard? The slightly sweet soy sauce keeps you enthusiastically eating the mountain of vegetables. The cabbage cores, sliced for easy eating, are delicious! Put the stir-fried vegetables on the rice. The soy sauce soaks into the white rice—irresistible! I tucked into the vegetable-topped rice and washed it down with タンメン. That enormous amount of vegetables kept disappearing into my stomach. A neighborhood Chinese restaurant I happened upon like an oasis. Thoroughly satisfied! #品川グルメ ♯鮫洲町中華 ♯町中華 ♯タンメン ♯鮫洲グルメ ♯品川町中華 ♯福本屋

I'd describe it as a neighborhood Chinese restaurant that still has a Showa-era atmosphere. Everything has a simple deliciousness. And it's cheap. Much appreciated. Cash only. It's such a shame that when someone smokes outside, the smell sometimes comes in, which is extremely unpleasant.

I visited around 19:00 on Saturday. There were no customers inside, so I sat down feeling a little uneasy. Round stools gave the interior a retro atmosphere. There are 4-person tables, 2-person tables, and counter seats. It seemed to be run by 2 elderly men. The 五目麺 was loaded with toppings: vegetables, kamaboko, datemaki (?), boiled egg, and more. I was surprised by the size, but the soup was light, so I polished it off. The 味噌ラーメン was piled with bean sprouts and had an addictive flavor with the sweetness and richness of miso. The 餃子 also had thin wrappers and were easy to eat. The ramen & half fried rice set was a little over 1000円, and I think the 五目麺 was in the 700円 range. In this day and age, the prices made me think they could raise them a little more. There were plenty of other intriguing dishes, including stir-fry set meals and 冷やし中華. As dinnertime arrived, people who seemed to be neighbors came in, men and women of all ages. Grateful for the owners' efforts to preserve these old-fashioned flavors without fuss or pretension, I vowed to return and photographed the exterior too.

An old-established, retro-style Chinese restaurant and set-meal place. It's about a 5-minute walk from 京急's 鮫洲駅, along 旧東海道. It was very lively when I visited at lunchtime. Perhaps lots of people working nearby come here? Lunch includes several set meals and combinations featuring ramen, fried rice, and so on. This time I ordered ramen with half a portion of fried rice. After ordering, I heard fried rice being cooked in a pan, which raised my hopes for something delicious. The food was ready after a while. As expected, the fried rice had nicely separate grains, while the ramen had a very light chicken-bone broth and an old-fashioned feel. I was very satisfied.
