We had the most amazing meal here on our trip. Would 💯 recommend. There are 4 restaurants in the little area so make sure you find the right one. Sadly we were the only ones present so we had the private chef experience 🤣 The owner was sensitive to this and left us alone and talked when right. He explained the dishes and honestly the beef was like something from not this world. He explained that if he didn't get the grade 5 wagyu from thr auction, he simply doesn't open!! You can tell he was very caring and proud of his food. Seek out this oasis of calm in the crazy Shibuya area.
View on GoogleThis place was perfect. The steak course was amazing! Gorgeous salad greens with pretty flower petals and homemade ginger dressing, sweet mini tomatoes and fresh mozzarella drizzled with olive oil, a hot popover right out of the oven with orange-infused butter, creamy cauliflower potage great for dipping the rest of the popover, and one of the best steaks ever, cooked to medium-rare perfection. Despite the leaner cut for A5 Wagyu, it was tender, juicy and so flavorful. I love that this restaurant uses no oil, only fragrant bintan charcoal. The steak was plated beautifully with side salt and mustard and accompanied by grilled vegetables, including sweet leaks, crunchy and tangy lotus root, and the smoothest mashed potatoes ever. The almost one-hundred-year-old restored building is also a wonder in itself. Although in Shibuya, it’s so peaceful and it feels like you slipped back in time. The tiny corridors and koi pond will have you lingering and taking photos before you even arrive at the old wooden door and atmospheric lantern for Roji. And because there is only counter seating, everyone is facing the gorgeous rounded window out to the garden. The drinks menu also has everything to go with steak, including red and white grape juice for those wanting to toast without alcohol. The house Saint Emillion wine was excellent, and I was eyeing the great whiskey selection. We had the whole place to ourselves as a party of four, which felt really special. Highly recommend!!
View on GoogleAbsolutely Perfect. I don’t usually write reviews, but I felt this restaurant was worth mentioning, especially for anyone visiting Japan. My wife and I have been to Japan six times, and on this trip, we stayed for two weeks. This was without a doubt one of the best dining experiences we had during our trip. The food was excellent, the Wagyu was exceptional, and the chef was incredibly welcoming and attentive. There are many restaurants in Japan that seem to cater more and more to tourists, but this place felt different. It had the atmosphere of a hidden gem — intimate, authentic, and full of character. The food and service felt very fairly priced, and in our opinion, offered even more than we expected. The chef is clearly a professional who takes great pride in what he does. More importantly, you can tell that he genuinely enjoys being in the restaurant business and taking care of his guests. That made the experience feel personal rather than simply being about the food. This is definitely a restaurant we would be happy to recommend to our family and friends. If you’re visiting Japan and looking for somewhere a little away from the typical tourist experience, this place is well worth considering.
View on GoogleI went to 和牛ステーキ 炉路, a hideaway restaurant in Shinsen. First, the approach to the entrance is lovely; walking down the cobblestone alley already feels out of the ordinary. On the way into the restaurant there's also a Japanese garden-style pond, so you're excited even before you enter. This place is counter-only, with 6 seats. This time we had the "Even Flow Course." The first salad surprised me with how intense the microherbs and tomatoes tasted. The potage has a gentle, comforting flavor. The popover × orange butter was light and slightly sweet, and very delicious. The main, Tamura beef, was a comparison of rump and ichibo. I enjoyed the differences between each. The Bolognese to finish wasn't too heavy, and I enjoyed it to the end. The gluten-free cheesecake was also pleasantly sweet and satisfying. Being able to relax in a calm space is another appeal. Recommended for special days and dates too. ⸻ 🍽️The course we had this time Even Flow Course (¥18,000) ・Salad of microherbs from Kajitani Farm, Hiroshima and Osmic tomatoes (a rare farm that does not accept new clients) ・Potage of Hinona turnip from Shiga Prefecture ・Homemade popover Whipped orange butter ・Wagyu corned beef Fennel crackers / vintage balsamic ・Tamura beef kiln-baked steak (rump and ichibo comparison) ・Homemade hand-made pasta Wagyu Bolognese ・Cheesecake (wasanbon) ・Coffee
View on GoogleA hideaway steak restaurant in Shibuya with only 6 counter seats. A dinner course cooked right in front of you in a charming interior with an old-established feel. Apparently the building is 80 years old. The restaurant is tucked a little away from the hustle and bustle of Shibuya, so it may be best to allow plenty of time when visiting. Perfect for a date.
