You know those "hole in the wall" places that are just absolute gems for comfort food? In my humble opinion, this place is absolutely the best for fried chicken in Japan. They make the food fresh. It was so good we went 3 days in a row including our last morning before heading to the airport to come home to USA. It is small place with a horse shoe shaped counter but the locals are very friendly and hospitable. Everything I tried was delicious, fresh and cooked infront of you. I tried the chicken, crab croquette, onion croquette, and potato croquette at different visits. It was all delicious!! Also super affordable! To find it, you go down an alley and a few stairs inside an older building.

A Legendary Showa-Era Hidden Gem in Shibuya! If you want a break from the ultra-modern side of Shibuya and want to step back in time, Torikatsu Chicken is a must-visit. Operating since 1977, this retro, Showa-era restaurant is hidden away on the second floor of a back-alley building in Dogenzaka. Finding it feels like discovering a delicious secret. 💰 The Price Point & Concept The value here is incredible for Tokyo, especially right in Shibuya. You get to customize your own Teishoku (set meal) based on how many deep-fried items you want, and every set comes loaded with rice, miso soup, and shredded cabbage. 2 Items: ¥950 3 Items: ¥1200 (What I ordered!) 4 Items: ¥1500 🥢 My Custom 3-Item Combination (Highly Recommend!) The panko breading is beautifully light, airy, and golden brown. I chose: 1. Chicken Cutlet (Torikatsu): The house specialty! Incredibly tender, juicy, and flavorful on the inside while staying perfectly crispy on the outside. 2. Crab Cream Croquette (Kani-Cream-Korokke): Super rich, velvety, and oozing with savory cream flavor that melts in your mouth. 3. Fried Onion Wrapped in Meat (Nikumaki-Yasai-Furai): A unique, savory masterpiece. The sweetness of the thick onion completely elevates the savory meat wrap. 💡 Quick Tips: Look for the weathered signs out on the street and head up to the second floor. Cash Only: Make sure you bring Japanese Yen, as they do not accept cards or digital pay. Kitchen Privacy: Please note that filming the kitchen area is not allowed - this is strictly to respect the privacy of the hard-working chefs and staff, so keep your camera focused on your delicious plate! Overall, amazing food, incredibly kind staff, and an authentic slice of old-school Tokyo history. I will absolutely be back!

My new fave hole in the wall chicken restaurant! A small restaurant, the women who work there are all lovely. The food was delicious, and only 950 yen for two chicken cutlets, rice and miso. Will definitely be back!

We had this restaurant saved on a list for some reason and decided to check it out. It is on the second floor in case you can't find it. Very good value for money in the area, you can get a tasty meal for 900 yen. For 900 yen you get to pick two types of fried food. I went with pork and squid, and my wife went with chicken and japanese potato. While the squid looks small, it was quite dense and very well cooked. Each order feels like it's more of a half order, but at that price I think it's pretty fair. You can pay more to include bigger portion sizes. The people working here are all very nice and can help you in English. As an fyi they ask that you don't film them during the preparation of the meal.
