I came here with a friend for lunch on a weekday. There were a lot of salarymen, which I’ve learned in Japan is usually a good sign that the food is great. We were seated right away, and the staff provided both Japanese and English menus. I ordered half chicken katsu and half pork katsu. When the food arrived, it was steaming hot and absolutely delicious. The meat was tender and practically melted in my mouth, and the rice was cooked perfectly. The miso soup made a great side dish as well. My only complaint is that this place only accepts cash, so if you plan to visit, make sure to bring some with you!
View on GoogleThis place is full of locals and office workers. Only my partner and I were tourists, but they do have an English menu with numbered items. The shop’s theme is all about pigs — the owner uncle wore a cute pig shirt, and the food presentation was adorable. The lady staff was also very sweet. Great prices and super tasty food. Truly recommend!
View on Google6 of us went here for lunch and dinner. The chicken katsu and ebi fry sets are arguably the best and freshest we have tasted in mainland Japan. The chicken is fresh not frozen, and the batter is done perfectly. The prawns of the ebi fry are firm and juicy, confirming freshness under the light crunchy panko. The skill of the Oji-san chef behind the counter in preparing the food can clearly be tasted. The Obaa-san (chef's wife?? :) ) at the front of house is very hospitable and helpful. And during our dinner, 2 other pairs of diners changed tables to make room for 6 of us to sit together. Classic Japanese hospitality at its finest! Other larger countries should come and learn proper manners from the Japanese. Limpeh says "ho seh!
View on GoogleReally small but delicious tonkatsu joint just a few blocks from shinjuku station. Mercifully they had an English menu - and a space available for 4 people. There were probably 4 tables total in the restaurant along with a few bar seats, very cute and cozy. Obviously their tonkatsu was delicious but their yakitori is killer too!!
View on GoogleThis is one of my go-to places when I’m eating alone. The tonkatsu is consistently crispy and flavorful, the rice and miso soup are always satisfying, and the prices are very reasonable. It’s a simple meal, but done really well. The atmosphere is cozy and unpretentious, and the staff are always welcoming. One small bonus — if you visit on a rainy day, they sometimes offer discounts or small extras, which is a nice touch that makes the visit even more enjoyable.
