Togo Shrine in Jingumae may be relatively young by Tokyo standards - established in 1940 - but it still offers a welcome pocket of calm just steps away from the intensity of Harajuku and Takeshita Street. It doesn’t have the ornate, centuries‑old architecture of some of the city’s major shrines, yet its appeal lies in the contrast it creates with its surroundings. Once you pass through the torii gate, the noise fades and you find yourself in a surprisingly peaceful green space. The small garden is the highlight, with a carp pond, stone lanterns, and shaded paths that make the shrine feel like a hidden retreat rather than something sitting beside one of Tokyo’s busiest fashion districts. It’s the kind of place where you can pause for a few quiet minutes before diving back into the crowds.
View on GoogleI love this shrine so much. It's in the middle of the hustle bustle of Harajuku Takeshita Street, but once you enter the shrine complex, everything went quiet. It's like you are transported to a different world. Very calm and serene. I visited the park and pond at the temple and watch the koi fish in the pond. There are so pretty. It's definitely a hidden gem of Harajuku
View on GooglePeaceful shrine to gain inspiration while seeking inner peace spiritually. Happened to chance upon beautifully bloomed cherry blossom and blessed are the newly couples who are getting married on this day when I visited the shrine. Considering it is nested near the hustle bustle city, it is no surprise you will meet visitors from afar touring around this infamous shrine.
View on GoogleBeautiful shrine just next to the shopping street! It is however not allowed to take picture inside the shrine grounds, but it is still a very nice and pretty shrine. They also have some very cute goshuins here!
View on GoogleThis tranquil shrine honouring the Admiral of Tsushima Battle can be found just round the corner from the chaoes of Harajuku. The complex also features a memorial center and a nice pond Zulu flagged souvenirs such as omamori can be obtained there. Goshuin are prewritten.
