Run by the chef alone! He was very busy yet courteous and efficient. The shoyu base ramen was so rich and deep. An absolutely delicious and heartwarming bowl for the cold weather. One of the char siu had such a great smoky flavor while the wonton was not overcooked and “al dente”. My partner had the white shoyu which I tasted and found more interesting (would get next time) but both are good.
View on GoogleFinally managed to get the earliest spot at 845am, there were 9 of us queuing that got me wondering. At 845am, the chef came out to invite us in, and only then we know 3 of them do not know that it needs reservation a day earlier to dine at this place, so they have to try their luck another day Upon entering, we were to put in cash into the vending machine and order the special shoyu ramen 2000yen. A ticket is dispensed and to be presented to the chef Waited a good 10 mins as I was the 3rd person as chef prepares for the 1st 2. Could see the dedication in his preparation of a good bowl of ramen Upon receiving mine, firstly is to taste the soup. It is filled with an explosion of flavors, more towards the saltier side. Next was a bite of the noodles, it was however not to my liking as it is on the soft texture. I prefer a chewier bite for my noodles. There are 3 slices of meat, 1 thick piece of chashu, 1 duck slice and 1 chicken slice. Truly delicious. Chagrilled finely with a hint of smokiness and good ratio of fat on the chicken There are 2 pieces of wanton, 1 pork and 1 shrimp and also with a creamy egg. Delicious. Great work of art in a bowl. Thanks chef. Umashi
View on GoogleGot the special white shoyu and it was very good. I went here as it was rated #2 on Tablelog and I felt I needed to try what is considered crazy good compared to a lot of other places I've been in Japan. Overall it was an amazing ramen, had a very rich umami flavor, but while being great I did my expectations for the #2 place weren't quite met. I feel a lot of ramen that I've had comes close. This place does require a reservation which comes with its own 780 yen booking fee, on top of the ramen costing 2050 yen a piece made it also the most expensive ramen I've had. Overall I'm glad I got to experience it once, I don't know if I would make the effort to come back!
View on GoogleI almost died eating here! I knew how legendary this shop is, so when I went here with my brother, we both ordered the signature shoyu ramen and a side rice. We got greedy and decided to split an additional shio ramen (we asked the owner if it was ok and he said yes). We both aren't big eaters, but man I stuffed myself over my limit to the point where I thought I was gonna pass out on the way back home. Ok so the ramen. Most complex bowl of ramen I had in my life. Also the most expensive I had in Japan. Noodles are on the softer side, which was strange because I never had soft ramen outside of the Shin Ramen I make at home. I'm fine with it, but this can throw some people off. The toppings were all fantastic, and I'm usually not a topping guy, I pay most attention to the broth and noodles. Broth is the most complex I've had. I can't even describe it. There was some truffle in it, and to me that is a negative. I just don't like that flavor. Overall, 9/10 for me. It's a top tier ramen that I would go back to if I can. Thankfully they have an online reservation system now, which I would gladly pay for to avoid having to wait 2 hours in line. PS: I didn't enjoy the shio ramen. It might be unfair because I was already full when I ate it.
View on GoogleThere is a reason this place is always rated 1 or 2 in Tokyo. Toppings are plentiful and amazing and the white shoyu special is a treat that you don’t get to see often
