My brother's family has never tried a robata restaurant in Japan so I did some research and found Oreno Robata Ebisu. They had an easy online reservation service. Just as importantly, they were able to accommodate our group of 6. We made an early evening reservation at 5 pm as we had an early morning flight the next day. The location is very close to the Ebisu JR station so it was easy to get there. When we got there, we were the only guests and we were placed in a room. Its a nice and quiet room except that you don't get a view of the grill like you would if you were seated at the counter. They had at least one staff member who spoke English fluently and was able to guide us on what to order and also the seasonal items. When I saw that they had black throat perch on the menu, I knew I had to order it. While we couldn't see the grill, we could smell the delicious food grilling. We ordered a variety of items including tiger prawns, beef tongue, and veggies. Everything was grilled nicely. The black throat perch had the right balance of salt that really brings out the fatty yumminess of the fish. The beef tongue was cooked to the right temperature and had a wonderful texture. The grilled onion is a must order. It smelled great and tasted even better. There was a good selection of sake which we also enjoyed. Since we were in a room, we had to get the attention of the staff if we wanted to order more items. That was not a problem and they were very quick to response. I would come back for the food and I would sit at the counter if I could. 100% recommend!

This place is a gem. Fantastic. Exactly what you would expect from a Japanese robata restaurant. Great selection of fresh fish served raw or charcoal grilled. The crab ikura donabe was amazing! Perfectly smokey with the umami sweetness of the crab. Don’t skip on the veggies either. Taste the fantastic quality of Japanese produce x mastery of the robata chef. Wish my stomach was bigger to have ordered more items. I have a feeling I will be back.

Want to experience Japanese BBQ with an izakaya feeling? This is the place. We enjoyed various dishes, the grilled fish is a must, probably one of the best we had in a long time. Recommended to order a few dishes and share. Can find, fish, meat, vegetarian, rice and other dishes.

Went to get the robota experience - all the food was very fresh, service was very friendly, and the tiled whitefish was excellent and since we had reserved seats at the counter, we were able to watch it being grilled. For dessert, the roast sweet potato and ice cream was an amazing combination. Would recommend booking in advance

Located on the second floor, food was nice, just some dish is a bit too salty but the rest are good. Generally, we still love it. Service was great. Recommended to book ahead as it was very busy.
