Murugi serves curry with a distinct and spicy flavor that really stands out. It leans more toward Indian-style curry rather than the sweeter Japanese kind, which makes it unique and memorable. I love how they serve the rice in a little mountain shape, and the boiled egg that comes with it surprised me by how well it matched the dish. Everything blended together perfectly. Just a heads-up, it is cash only, so come prepared. A great spot for anyone who enjoys bold, flavorful curry.

It was our first day in Tokyo and while we were looking for a spot we noticed that there was a line of locals already formed before the shop even opened. We went on that faith thinking if the locals are lining up for it, this food must be good. We were not disappointed! I've never had curry like that before in Canada and I have had a good few. This one is topping my list. It was a healthy portion of rice(even for the regular) and the curry was full of flavor. The ones we had was their best seller which is a chicken based curry with egg slices to top it off. I didn't find it too spicey but be warned, if spice isn't your game this might come off as a bit spicy for you. But have an extra glass of water and it will be worth your while. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating as well. There was a genuine feeling of being welcomed and not rushed. The head chef at the restaurant was very kind and was very curious about us and our adventure to come. The atmosphere was very homey and reminded me of comforting times in front of the fireplace. I do hope to cross paths with this place again and thank you Murugi for a great experience!

Old school curry shop in Dogenzaka, sign outside says open in 1951. Roux is on thinner side with some pieces of chicken, but goes very well with the rice. Regular is decently spicy and has a tiny hint of sweetness.

Located up the hill just off of Hyakkendana Street, this Showa style curry shop is worth the short walk from Shibuya Station. I tried the basic curry with a boiled egg topping, which came with a pile of rice molded into the shape of Mt. Fuji. They have beer, which paired nicely with my food. Note that they are open only for lunch.

Very delicious with a unique taste. To me, it tasted like a cross between Japanese and Indian curry. Not very spicy but just enough to feel it. I also really enjoy the presentation of the curry, very fun and unique! Got one with cheese and one without the second time, and I didn’t notice much of a difference for ¥100 extra.
