I was pleasantly surprised with the pie here. Being from the south in America we know how to do pies well, so I wanted to check this place out. They have a great selection to choose from, and I went with their classic apple. It was a solid piece, with a nice filling and a crispy crust. I wish they would’ve warmed it up though. I was seated right outside so didn’t get to enjoy the full ambiance of the place. The service was friendly.
View on GoogleVery small sliver of a cheese cake the small plate looks ginormous in comparison. The flavor isn’t bad. Cafe latte is drip coffee with milk. Not tue New York cheesecake I was expecting… no crust but crumbly powder of a deconstructed crust on top. The flower Pattern plate takes away from the simplicity of the cake and I think makes it loose its creative composure.
View on GoogleA very popular pie/sweets cafe. You can also order sweets for to go. Pies are their specialty. Those pies are meant to be served with vanilla ice cream and garnish. So for to go, unfortunately, they were less than stellar. Credit cards accepted.
View on GoogleWe grabbed a seat outside because the inside was packed — partly because people seemed to treat their finished plates as a reservation extension and just… linger. I ordered the apple pie, which apparently requires a solid 10 minutes of “preparation.” You’d think that meant warm, crisp pastry and something remotely memorable. Instead, it arrived cold, with pastry that was soft and sad rather than flaky. Still not sure what part of “put pie on plate” needs a countdown timer, but okay. The café au lait didn’t help. If you’re in the mood for steamed milk that once heard the word “coffee” from across the room, you’ll love it. At the end of the day, if you’re specifically craving overpriced, underwhelming apple pie served with a side of waiting-for-no-reason, this is your place. Otherwise, do yourself a favour and walk right past.
View on GoogleMatsunosuke can be a bit tricky to find; while you can spot it from the corner, you'll need to enter the building to reach it. Inside, there's tight seating for 8-10 people, with an additional four seats outside. I stopped by for some hometown nostalgia and ordered the New York cheesecake. The regular slice costs around JPY 700 for takeout or JPY 800 for dine-in. I also tried the caramel cheesecake, which was even smaller but notably richer, thanks to its butterscotch/caramel crust. The New York cheesecake was quite tart, leaning a bit heavily on lemon or vinegar, and lacked a graham cracker crust, making it essentially pure cheese. It was also creamier than expected, likely catering to Japanese preferences, and didn't have the crumbly texture typical of New York cheesecake. The caramel cheesecake was very rich, with the caramel/butterscotch flavor somewhat overshadowing the cheesecake itself, though it was still a nice treat. While it was interesting to visit once, I wouldn't make a repeat visit.
