View on GoogleI went here thinking it was a museum of music. Actually, it's a museum about Masao Koga, a prolific Japanese composer. It was my first introduction to his music, and I have to say that I found it quite interesting. I was happy to make a new discovery.

View on GoogleThe Koga Masao Museum of Music is a calm museum where you can immerse yourself deeply in the world of Showa-era kayō pop songs. The Koga Masao Museum of Music is about a 3-minute walk from Yoyogi-Uehara Station and introduces, from many angles, the achievements of Koga Masao, a composer who represents Showa-era kayō. Inside, the study, Japanese-style room, and lesson room, relocated from part of the former Koga residence, have been recreated, so you can view them while sensing the atmosphere of daily life and creative work of that time. The exhibits cover a wide range, including instruments, sheet music, photos, and video materials, and are especially satisfying for those familiar with Showa kayō. There's also a reference room in the basement where you can watch old films and listen to recordings, which is well received. The karaoke studio is unlike typical karaoke shops: it's a quiet, private studio-style room you can use for 300 yen per 30 minutes. The karaoke machine is a DAM AI. Reservations are generally not accepted, and when it's busy, there's a 30-minute rotation system. Opening hours are 10:00〜17:00 (closed Mondays), and admission is 550 yen for general, 440 yen for high school and university students, and 220 yen for elementary and junior high students.
