we thoroughly enjoyed our experience here. the queuing system is efficient, and it only took us around 10 minutes to be seated on a weekend evening. the ambience is dark and cozy, with a moderate noise level. we also appreciated the experience of grinding our own sesame seeds and making our own dipping sauce. for the meal, you can choose any set and enjoy unlimited refills of rice, miso soup, and cabbage. for vegetarians, the only option is the yuba maki katsu. it doesn’t come as its own set, but you can add the unlimited refill as add-on for only 500 yen. i honestly think it’s well worth the price, though do note that the yuba katsu itself is quite small. i ended up feeling full mostly from the many refills of cabbage and soup. (note: i did not confirm whether the miso soup is vegetarian.) the cabbage with the yuzu dressing was incredibly refreshing, and we never expected a simple salad to become the highlight of our meal. we also had the chawan mushi, and asked to separate the chicken. this was good although slightly too soft and watery. we ended the night with the yuzu sorbet, which was sweet, tangy, and the perfect palate cleanser. i would definitely recommend this place, and do please come hungry! you’ll leave feeling full and satisfied.
View on GoogleArrived at 8.30pm (close to their stated closing time) and was shocked that there was still a queue. Turns out their closing time is the last order time. The queue moved decently fast, and there were seats outside to wait. We ordered the premium ebi and pork loin set together with a regular pork loin and vegetable roll set. Honestly I preferred the taste of the regular pork loin as it is less fatty. The premium one was just abit too cloying for me. Their ebi was wonderful, it tasted more like lobster than prawn! Worth the try if you’re in the area but won’t travel specifically for this.
View on GoogleSo goood! It’s located up in a shopping Center, which may seem weird, but it’s great. Waiting is normal but it doesn’t take long. The original tonkatsu were so good. It’s in bento style with rice and egg and a few sides and it’s just delicious. The service is really friendly and helpful! Recommended for a chill evening! Get a reservation come a little bit earlier.
View on GoogleThis tonkatsu restaurant is located on the 14th floor of the Takashimaya mall. Ordered the pork cutlet with shrimp tempura combo. Pork is juicy, moist and tender. The cut is slightly too fatty for me so had to spit out a few bites of it. Shrimp is big in portion and very fresh and firm in texture. Overall a very satisfying meal. The restaurant gets busy during peak hours. Lineup is common. Go esrlt if possible to avoid long wait. No reservation seems possible.
View on GoogleCrispy, juicy tonkatsu done right. The pork is perfectly breaded—golden on the outside, tender and flavorful inside and the shrimp is a standout: huge, crunchy, and sweet. Love the DIY sesame sauce you grind at the table, plus unlimited cabbage, rice, and miso soup. Service is smooth and fast. Yes, there’s usually a wait, but it’s 100% worth it for quality tonkatsu in Shinjuku.
