ひら匠Hirashō
A Chinese restaurant near Hiroo Station with the feel of a set-meal diner. “Menya Shokudo Hirasho” is a Chinese restaurant in Shibuya. It looks like a ramen shop, but actually has the atmosphere of a set-meal diner. The recommendation is chilled black sesame tantanmen. The black sesame is rich, and the miso-seasoned meat is sweet, spicy, and full-bodied—the more you mix, the better it tastes. The fried rice is also recommended and generously portioned. From 15:00, the menu expands with plenty of options that also make it suitable for use as an izakaya.

This place used to be my absolute favorite growing up, but as I’ve gotten older and have had the pleasure of experiencing other ramen / chyuka establishments , I’ve realized this place is quite mediocre. Portion sizes are hefty, but aside from that there’s nothing very special with the flavors here. My biggest issue however is the obvious lack of cleanliness. Every surface is extremely sticky, with grease covering quite literally every corner of the restaurant. I struggled to even pull the chair out from under the counter. That paired with the lack of ventilation made all of my clothing absolutely reek of ramen and grease. I give it an extra star for nostalgias sake and for being a neighborhood institution but if you’re looking for a truly great ramen experience I would not recommend.
View on GoogleThis place serves a wide variety of ramen types - miso, shoyu, shio and cold chukamen. There are also side dishes like gyoza and fried rice. The food is flavorful and the portions are big. Service is very straightforward so don't expect a kaseki experience of anything - it's a noodle parlor after all. Recommended if you're hungry!
View on GoogleYou order from the kiosk. We don't speak Japanese, so we didn't know what we were ordering. The food was amazing with LARGE portions. We should have ordered one meal instead of two.
View on GoogleNo nonsense place. The food is fast. The twice cooked pork was delicious; savory, sweet spicy. The soup was nice. The gyoza were ordinary. I'll return.
View on GoogleTasty and well priced and very large portions. I will definitely return.
