If you’re looking for great gyoza in the Harajuku/Omotesando area, check this place out. We visited on a Saturday, and like many popular spots in Japan, there was a line. It moved steadily, and it was well worth it. The restaurant is centered around a large U shaped counter that wraps around the kitchen, so you can watch the cooks making gyoza right in front of you. There are also a few small tables along the side if you’re with a group or would rather not sit at the counter. It creates a fun, lively atmosphere without feeling hectic. The menu is exactly what you’d expect from a place that specializes in gyoza. You can order them fried or steamed, with or without garlic, plus a shiso gyoza that I absolutely loved. There are a few simple side dishes as well. I ordered the cucumber with miso, which was fresh, refreshing, and a great complement to the meal. We also tried the tofu. It was fine, but it was pretty bland and nothing particularly special. I’d skip it next time and save room for more gyoza. We ordered the several batches of fried gyoza with garlic and shiso, and they were excellent. Perfectly crispy on the bottom, juicy on the inside, and packed with flavor. I didn’t try the steamed version, but the fried gyoza alone would bring me back. If you’re expecting pages of menu options, this isn’t that kind of place. You’re here for the gyoza, and they do them exceptionally well.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but our experience at Harajuku Gyozarou was honestly one of the biggest disappointments of our trip to Tokyo. We came here expecting a simple, authentic, no-frills gyoza spot that focused on quality food and warm Japanese hospitality. Instead, we were met with cold, unfriendly service from the second we walked in. There was no welcome, no friendliness, and absolutely no customer service whatsoever. What surprised us even more was that the entire staff appeared to be foreign workers — we did not see a single Japanese employee there. Normally that would not matter if the experience and food were good, but combined with the poor service and lack of care, the whole place felt disconnected from the authentic experience people hype it up to be. We decided to stay and give the food a fair chance despite our first impression. Huge mistake. We ordered the steamed gyoza and they were awful — barely any filling, no flavor, and the plate was literally sitting in water straight from the pot. It felt rushed, sloppy, and honestly unappetizing. To make matters worse, the restaurant did not look clean. The tables were sticky, the atmosphere felt grimy, and overall the place just looked poorly maintained. On top of that, it’s cash only, which felt frustrating considering the quality of the experience. Tokyo is full of incredible restaurants with amazing food and genuine hospitality, which makes this place stand out even more for all the wrong reasons. We left feeling disappointed, uncomfortable, and genuinely confused by the hype surrounding this restaurant. Please save your time and money and go somewhere else. There are far better places in Tokyo that actually deserve the attention.

The best gyoza in the world. The skin of gyoza is very crunchy and delicious. Paired it with beer is the best. The owner and the staff is very kind and friendly. Nice to see them again after last 2 years. Next visit of japan i will eat here again definitel. Will missed the taste of gyoza here. So yummy and delicious. And the price is friendly too. 😋

Stopped in on a Tuesday afternoon. Fairly long line to get in, but it moved decently quickly. Seated for 2 at the bar. My husband ordered 2 sets of gyozas and loved them both. I had the tofu (wasn't a huge fan) and the cucumbers with miso (yummy and refreshing). Service was attentive, quick, and pleasant. Would recommend for anyone seeking pork gyozas (not intended for vegetarians). Cash only.

Visited May 15 2026 during afternoon. There was no wait at all. Ordered Shiso plus regular garlic gyoza. Decent but nothing standout worthy. Side of miso cucumber and bean sprout with meat was solid. Cheap. Kitchen Environment could be a turnoff for some.
