Ever wondered how Japanese Wagyu would fare as a hamburger steak while strolling through Shibuya? Tucked among the cozy restaurants on the fourth floor of Sakura Stage, I found Banana Steak, a teppanyaki restaurant specializing in 100% Wagyu beef hamburger steaks. At first glance, it feels like an East-meets-West concept: one of Japan's most prized ingredients transformed into a dish often associated with Western comfort food. The hamburger steak is shaped and cooked right before you on a hot iron plate, allowing the beef to develop a flavorful crust while retaining its juicy interior. Watching the chef prepare it on the teppan, followed by a dramatic flambé, had my mouth watering long before the first bite. Made from a coarse blend of Wagyu cuts, the patty delivers a satisfyingly meaty texture and a burst of rich beef umami. Served atop a bed of sautéed moyashi sprouts and crowned with melted cheese fresh from the flames, it can be enjoyed simply with rock salt and wasabi or paired with the restaurant's garlic steak sauce and demi-glace. Each combination offers a different way to appreciate the quality of the beef. The course itself was hearty and satisfying, showcasing the balance and variety often found in a Japanese obento. An ice-cold draft beer paired wonderfully with the rich flavors of the Wagyu, while the meal concluded on a sweet note with a vanilla ice cream daifuku—a scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream wrapped in soft, chewy mochi. A successful meeting of Japanese craftsmanship and Western comfort food, right in the heart of Shibuya. Thank you for the meal!

The wagyu hamburg steak was amazing! Juicy and full of flavor. It comes in a set menu with appetizers, miso soup, salad, rice, big portions and very delicious. You can see how they cook the hamburger and the flamblé part is quite impressive. Nice atmosphere, you can come with friends or for a date, and the view is also great. Love the place, I’ll come again for sure!

If you are looking for the ultimate teppanyaki experience in Tokyo, Banana Steak at Shibuya Sakura Stage (just a minute from Shibuya Station's New South Gate) is an absolute must. The energy is vibrant, and the service is exceptionally warm. The meal begins with a cozy corn soup, fresh mozzarella, and greens, but the main event is pure culinary art. Watching the chef expertly sear the 100% Japanese black Wagyu ribeye right in front of you—culminating in a breathtaking flame show—is unforgettable. The Wagyu itself is nothing short of a masterpiece: incredibly tender, juicy, and literally melting away with every single bite. Paired with their mind-blowing garlic rice—which is so aromatic and packed with flavor that it easily steals the show—alongside comforting miso soup, pickles, and finished with refreshing vanilla ice cream, it is perfection on a plate. Unmatched quality, incredible flavors, and an absolute steal for the price. Do not skip this place when you are in Shibuya!

I had an amazing experience at BANANA STEAK in Shibuya Sakura Stage, just 1 minute from the New South Gate of Shibuya Station. The atmosphere has great vibes — modern, lively, and comfortable. The staff were incredibly kind and attentive, making the whole experience feel welcoming. I had the wagyu ribeye steak set, and it was absolutely superb. The steak was perfectly cooked and incredibly tender, paired with a fresh salad, flavorful Japanese-style garlic rice, miso soup, and mochi ice cream for dessert. Everything was delicious and thoughtfully prepared. Watching the chefs cook right in front of you adds a special touch and really shows their skill and attention to detail. Highly recommend—definitely a 5/5 experience!

Absolutely the best grilled Waygu meal I've had in Tokyo. This place is located upstairs in the Food Met level of Shibuya Towers above the Shibuya Station escalators. Across from Shibuya Stage. The seating is counter service and the very talented chef is in the center with the grill. Seat yourself situation and you order from a QR code. There are baskets for your personal items. Lots of options from a la carte to meal sets (highly recommend, it is a great deal for waygu). We ordered Waygu and tenderloin sets. Comes with appetizer, soup, salad and ice cream. I also got the yuzu shoju cocktail. Service is TOP notch!!! Friendly, attentive & just represents everything I love about Japan! Meal and drinks came out timely, fresh made to order and with carr and attention of the chef. Loved every bite of waygu as it melted so tenderly. It's a small area seating about 15-16 seats. Great air circulation. Great menu selectiobs for food and drinks. We stumbled on this by being lost and wandering and have been ao happy with this place. Ambiance is chill, relaxing, & well ventilated. Bookmarking for future visits!!
