Tried Spajiro Shimokitazawa and it was a great find. Mostly locals dining here (foreigners maybe around 20%), which is always a good sign. They have an English menu, so it’s easy to order. You can choose to have small, medium, or large pasta portion (100g-170g) with the same price. They also got Japanese style and western style menu. Definitely try the Japanese-style spaghetti especially the mentaiko. Super umami and really tasty!

View on GoogleItaliano / Nihonji - Wow what happens when 2 great cuisines meet - an eclectic explosion of flavours n taste from 2 great cuisines. Nippon styled Italian pasta/spaghetti done in every which way. Served in bowls n chopsticks provided, black pepper or chilli oil garnishing it’s all a wonderful mix of flavours for this quintessential comfort food. The restaurant is spick n span with attentive service who are patient nuff to explain the dishes for the uninitiated. Well recommended for those who need a pick me up after a long day at the office or just as a reward to end the day. Delicious, slurpy, el dente spaghetti for those who want a fulfilling meal at reasonable costs n in a comfy environment. MANJARA or ITAKDAKIMASU - the meal was a champion 👍
View on GoogleOnly two main dishes are vegetarian as confirmed by the chefs here: ripe tomato and garlic arrabbiata spaghetti (number 30 on menu, likely vegan but didn't confirm) and mozzarella cheese and eggplant tomato spaghetti (number 32 on menu, even if you rove the cheese, the sauce still has butter that they cannot remove so it isn't vegan). They also have an English menu. Pasta came al dente, and level 3 spice was surprisingly spicy for Japan. Garlic was a bit charred, so a few parts were bitter; however, the flavor of the pasta overall was still good. The sauce to pasta ratio was perfect.
View on GoogleMy friend recommend Spajiro as a Japanese style Italian place with reliably good pasta at a reasonable price. My partner and I were in Shimo-Kitazawa one weekend afternoon and thought we would try it. I had the pasta with eggplant and minced meat, the spices were excellent and I was pleasantly surprised by the great east meets west blending of flavors - I really enjoyed my dish. My partner had the carbonara and added shrimp, he liked it, but he said mine was better :) Regardless, one critique of my partner's carbonara that we both had was that it should have been creamier (but I guess at these prices they aren't using the finest ingredients). Either way though, the food was good the prices are very reasonable, in addition, they have a happy hour special on drinks. Definitely worth trying one of their various locations if you're hankering for some "wa fu" style Italian :)
