It's so nice that older houses are preserved and opened to the public. Setagaya ku is having some more building's, in parks. With the covirus problems the events are cancelled, but it is an excellent place.

A cultural facility that recreates Setagaya's farming-village landscape up to around the early Showa era, where you can learn about life back then through hands-on experiences. The main house with its thatched roof is impressive; it was originally built in the late Edo period about 250 years ago and is a Setagaya City tangible cultural property. Apparently it was actually lived in as a home and went through several renovations before being moved here in Showa 53. Throughout the year they hold events and exhibitions related to the farming calendar and festive days, and on the day I visited, it was lively with parents and kids at a bamboo-blind-making workshop ahead of summer. Some hands-on events seem to require reservations, which you apply for via the city's website or posters. It was a summer-hot day, but they had a fire lit in the irori. It's partly a performance, but apparently it's needed to keep bugs away. The volunteers were courteous too, and they shared lots of interesting stories.
