Came across this place by chance while walking through the neighborhood on my way to somewhere else and decided to have a quick look around. There is a pleasant garden (quite small, but full of many different kinds of trees, plants, flowers, etc.) and a beautiful house that is almost 100 years old. Mr. Kamei, the current owner, was kind enough to show us around and explain many things about the property, the architecture, and his grandparents, who built the house. I can speak Japanese, so much of his explanation was in Japanese, but he also speaks excellent English. If he hadn't been there, I probably would only have spent a few minutes enjoying the pretty garden, but I ended up staying for almost half an hour, getting a great tour and listening to many fascinating stories. Really glad that I found this hidden gem!

View on GoogleI happened to pass by on my way from Shoho-ji to Matsubara Fuji. A splendid residence that's a Registered Tangible Cultural Property. The atmosphere of the Showa era remains strong. They open the garden to the public in partnership with the general incorporated foundation "Setagaya Trust Machizukuri." It was too late that day so I couldn't see it, but the owner, who happened to be there, told me all sorts of things. It was the first I'd heard of the "Citizens' Green Space System," but it's a great initiative. There was a magnificent cherry tree at the entrance, so I imagine spring must be lovely. Addendum Revisited in May. It's a shame I couldn't come during cherry blossom season. I got to see the garden, and it really felt like an ordinary family home, with the owner's hobbies strongly felt throughout. The owner explains things in detail, so allow plenty of time when you visit.
View on GoogleA 94-year-old Registered Tangible Cultural Property! The owner still lives here. Explained all sorts of things to us. The small garden has a lovely atmosphere.
View on GoogleThere are many different kinds of cherry trees, well worth seeing and wonderful🤗 Today I saw the 100-year-old big weeping cherry. The owner of the house kindly explained, "This big weeping cherry was born in Kyoto and raised in Tokyo😊" Apparently the yamazakura and Fuji cherry will be at their best in about 2 more weeks, so I want to go again😉 I hear the garden is open to view except over the year-end and New Year holidays, so I'm looking forward to that too🥰
