Delicious Katsu place run by an old couple who has probably been running this restaurant for decades now. The breading of the katsu is light and fluffy while the meat is cooked to perfection. You are also free to customize your order and mix-and-match the different offerings they have to your own taste. Definitely a hidden gem that is highly recommended. The only downside is that while their schedule is pretty much open everyday, they take holidays on random days and you cannot really check when that will happen.
View on GoogleAfter being hospitalized for 2 months, I found this shop during my early morning walk to recover my stamina. I couldn't resist and visited for lunch on the same day I found it, the atmosphere of the shop and the cooking were the best set meal shop for me, a person of the Showa era. Glad I could find it... I will come again 🤤
View on GoogleFounded in 1979, an affordable and hearty set meal shop. A set meal shop that has been around for a long time in a place quite far from the station, between Chitose-Karasuyama on the Keio Line and Mitakadai on the Inokashira Line. In front of it is the Saeki supermarket. It's close to the Japan Women's College of Physical Education, but the customers are almost all middle-aged men. A shop full of Showa vibes, so people who care about details and complain shouldn't go. A very quiet lady serves the customers. It doesn't mean the service is bad. Pork Katsu Curry, Katsu 3x 1290 yen. Large rice +160 yen. The curry is a thick curry focused on umami that isn't spicy, a modification of demi-glace sauce. Similar to Kanazawa curry but I prefer this over Kanazawa curry. The katsu might be double-fried because the breading is crunchy and aggressive. The meat is layered katsu so it's soft. The miso soup tastes like instant and is salty, which is a shame. Because there are 3 pieces of katsu, I thought the volume was quite a lot, but even with a large rice, the amount of rice isn't much so I devoured it. Anyway, for this price for this volume, it's really commendable. A very honest shop and I hope it lasts a long time.
View on GoogleFounded 46 years ago, a deep Western-style restaurant on the border of Setagaya and Mitaka. Menus handwritten with a brush are posted inside and outside the shop, radiating a strong presence. Inside the shop, there is a fitting old-fashioned atmosphere, a nostalgic space that remains like the Showa era. Antique cash registers and refrigerators invite nostalgia. Although it is a Western-style restaurant, there is no pilaf, doria, pasta, soup, etc., the mainstays are fried foods, curry, and yakiniku. Even the menus that look abundant are almost all combinations of the 3 types above. In addition, the amount of meat/katsu can be increased by 1.5-3 times depending on the menu, a heavy-class lineup focused on volume. I visited often for a month and ate various things. Regarding individual menus, the dish names are in the attached photos, and impressions are in the video sent separately. The biggest feature of this shop is the katsu breading. Like a cracker, crunchy and crispy, a matter of taste. Recommendations are probably [Chicken skin teriyaki set meal] [Loin katsudon] [Fried oyster set meal]? The owner is locked in the kitchen and not visible, the hall is handled by the wife. A quiet and humble person, but the service is necessary and sufficient. I remember I asked for a spoon for [Tanin-don] yesterday, and she served [Katsudon] with a spoon from the beginning. It might not suit those who expect [a friendly set meal shop owner figure]. But it's much better than a shop that favors regulars and is arrogant to new customers. There might be people who feel annoyed being talked to and want to focus on eating in silence. With shops with various service styles, customer choices also increase. A shop supported for nearly half a century, there is no need to change the current style. Holidays are bi-weekly Tuesdays, lunch break is 15:00-16:30, last order is 19:30. In the midst of many private shops that are loose with opening hours, here it is always open 10 minutes before. Rarely closed suddenly, a neat shop. Because of the location, most customers are nearby regulars, a shop necessary for the region. I hope they increase holidays and lunch breaks, take care of their health and continue for a long time. They are both not young anymore.........
View on GoogleI ate Chicken Nanban. Crispy, juicy, and delicious♪♪ The atmosphere of the shop also felt Showa, good❗️ There is a cash register that has been used for about 70 years and is still in use.
