This used to be a Chinese-style izakaya (also serving lunch during the day). The staff were very friendly and all nice people (though they often argued fiercely with each other in Chinese lol). But honestly, when it came to the food, I never found anything tasty from either a Japanese or Chinese perspective (basically, the problem was that the food was generally bad). Shimotakaido has Koraku, a strong competitor in terms of flavor, so they struggled a bit. They tried all sorts of things, including renovations and offering free karaage, but the struggle continued. Then Typhoon No. 24 hit in 2018. The exhaust duct carrying air from the kitchen ventilation fan up to the roof was blown away, falling onto the road and neighboring houses' roofs. They gave up on repairs and restoration and closed down (went out of business). It was probably one of the shops rumored to be operated nationwide by a wealthy owner who never appears publicly (all have different names, but similar signs and interiors; the kitchen workers are brought over from China without any cooking experience, and while presenting themselves as authentic, they keep labor costs low with middle-aged and older Chinese migrant workers, so the food inevitably turns out bad). I imagine the staff are probably working at other branches now.

They used to offer all-you-can-eat karaage, but stopped fairly quickly, perhaps because it wasn't profitable. They seem to have brought it back recently, but the rules have become complicated. They've also covered the windows with so many menus that you can't see the interior at all, even though the long, narrow layout already makes it hard to see inside. At least considering the location and target customers, I think letting people see inside would attract more business.
