Was in the area looking for sushi, found this place. We had the whole place to ourselves on Saturday at lunchtime. Traditional seating with tables you kneel at (RIP my knees). Large nigiri sushi lunch deal was great value & was beautifully presented. The sashimi platter felt a bit small but was also interesting. The chef was nice and welcoming, we didn't really share a common language so he brought a sushi book to show us what fish we were eating. Clam was awesome, even normally-least-loved egg was a delight. We did not check reviews before eating here however so alas, did not realize that everything on the plate was hiding an important secret. On biting into an innocuous cucumber roll, I too discovered (like Victoria Henri) that wasabi can indeed make you cry. As I felt the fumes peeling the top layer of cells from my sinuses & clutched my companion's arm (I'm a tad dramatic) the chef made eye contact with my (red, watery) eyes. He goes "karai?" (spicy) & I go "hai!" (yep). He said sorry & then giggled. Westerners - if you have a sushi-eating routine back in your home country of adding soy & wasabi, for your own safety, take heed.
View on GoogleWonderful, fresh sushi. The chef was very nice but fair warning to any westerners he also like his wasabi! I never knew sushi could make me cry so hard 😅 10/10 would go back (Tip: Also check out the thrift store near by if you’ve got some time to spare! )

View on GoogleI visited 江戸前 東鮨 for lunch, located along 世田谷通り in the 上町 area. It's conveniently located about a 3-minute walk from 世田谷駅 on the 東急世田谷線. Inside are 7 counter seats and 3 tables in a raised tatami area(seating 4 each). It's compact but calm, and a lively, friendly chef-owner welcomes you. The biggest attraction at lunch is undoubtedly the price. Nigiri starts at 1,100円, which is very reasonable, and it's lovely to be able to enjoy sushi casually. This time I had 1.5 portions of nigiri. Every piece was carefully prepared, and it's surprising to be able to enjoy sushi at lunchtime for this price. I felt it was a very valuable neighborhood sushi shop where you can casually drop in. It's a place I'd like to revisit when I want sushi for an everyday lunch.
View on GoogleI had work nearby several times and became a repeat customer. The friendly, lively chef-owner welcomes you. It was a joy to enjoy delicious sushi from a sushi restaurant at this price.
