First time here. The homey atmosphere is nice. I encountered brown.
View on Google[Visited January 2025] A shop in front of the station that I never noticed, even though I often drink in Ookayama. I visited as my second stop that day. Opening the door and stepping in, it's a small place with only about 7 counter seats. There were already 5 customers, and I settled into a corner of the counter. More customers came right after and it was full. Many of the regulars were of an age you could call senior, with an atmosphere as if they all know each other well. I was quickly welcomed into the circle and got baptized by senior power. (lol Looking at the menu packed with handwriting, it had every item you'd expect at an izakaya, and the most expensive was the Kuroge Wagyu hot pot at 990 yen. Pricing you could call extraordinary. I heard the owner came from "Mitsuru," a motsuyaki shop also in Ookayama, and when you try it, it's not just cheap — the food is really delicious. With these prices and this quality, it was like a Showa-era shop, going back two eras in time. First things first, a drink: ・Akaume Chuhai 600 yen That's what I asked for. ■What I ate and drank ・Akaume Chuhai 600 yen ・Green onion tamagoyaki 490 yen ・Kushiage chef's choice, 3 skewers 490 yen ・Oolong-wari 450 yen With the first "Akaume Chuhai," the chuhai, the sour, and a glass of ice were served separately; I enjoyed the unfamiliar style and kicked off my second stop while crushing the plum. The "Green onion tamagoyaki" was a simple dish, but with a strong green onion flavor. The "Kushiage chef's choice, 3 skewers" was only 490 yen, yet three large kinds came out: "shrimp," "lotus root," and "pork." The "pork" in particular was delicious, a skewer that makes you want to drink, and three skewers filled me up quite a bit. Most of the regulars were my seniors, but maybe it's a pre-bubble trait — they were truly powerful and talked and talked. Given the location, many could walk home, and they seemed to drink as long as they pleased. I think this powerful atmosphere may not be for everyone, but they're all Welcome-type people, so if you're curious, do jump in. Thanks for the meal.
View on GoogleOn a street one block off the Ookayama shopping street, there was an atmospheric back alley. It had a retro vibe, as if time had stopped only in this area. It seemed one small yakitori shop was open. You might get to enjoy the underground side of Ookayama.
View on GoogleTucked away quietly in a narrow alley right off the station rotary. Apparently it used to be on the 2F, but it's now on the 1F. With 8 counter seats, it can overflow with regulars. Yakitori from 100~. Other snacks too. According to the owner, it's a yakitori izakaya. Everyone is kind even to newcomers. Has an underground feel. There's female staff too, so it feels safe.
