A truly authentic sushi restaurant. The photo shows their chirashi sushi, with sushi rice covered by a layer of kanpyo (dried gourd) and topped with tuna, salmon, silver-skinned fish, shrimp, and salmon roe—so much that the toppings are overflowing. The silver-skinned fish, in particular, was outstanding. You can also order seasonal specials. The interior is spacious, with counter seating, tables, and tatami seating.

View on GoogleI'd known about this place for a while, but I came as part of my 'tour of neighborhood sushi shops'? It's in the Zoshiki Shotengai, and it was just around dusk, with a beautiful sun. The inside is quite spacious and clean. It's run by a fairly young couple(?), and the service is polite and pleasant. The drinks menu is extensive and easy to understand, but the food and sushi have no prices listed. There were set options, though. On the front wall there were tasty-looking handwritten menus of drinking snacks, so I decided to choose from there tonight. First, a medium bottle of beer for 650 yen to toast myself! I worked hard today too. From the wall menu I had hoya-su. Very fresh, tender, with a nice aroma, delicious. Long ago, when I first came to Tokyo from Sendai, it smelled too strong for me to eat! It makes the drinks go down. Next, also from the wall, I ordered kame-no-te! Rare. They said it's hot, so let it sit a bit first. I did as told, peeled the shell and ate it, and it had a really rich, deep flavor, delicious. It tastes more like crab than shellfish. I found it interesting that the insides differ from piece to piece. It was topped with chopped green onions, and the broth was ridiculously good! I love this soup. I drank it all, and when I told the taisho it was really delicious, he said, 'Right? The broth comes out of it, so I think the soup is the best part. A customer yesterday said it wasn't that great, which surprised me.' People who don't get how good this is shouldn't eat it. What a waste. For sake, I had Jokigen Tokubetsu Junmaishu from Yamagata, a morikiri pour for 880 yen. The okami-san poured it. A rich, tasty sake. For snacks, I'd also been curious about the iwagaki, so I ordered it. Huge, as expected! I put all the condiments on and enjoyed it. The richness unique to iwagaki spread through my mouth. Why are iwagaki so rich? I'm not going to look it up, so it'll remain an eternal mystery. From here, having enjoyed the snacks, I moved on to nigiri. I asked for hikarimono one at a time. First, saba. It was scored with a knife too, and the sushi is delicious! I started thinking this might be a hidden gem? The snacks and the sushi are both good. But since I don't know the prices, I'll save my rating for the end. I added more sake and started eating and drinking in earnest. I had Koshino Kagetora Junmaishu from Niigata for 880 yen. Crisp, as you'd expect from Niigata. Next sushi was aji. Melting! The amount of rice is perfect. The iwashi also melted and was delicious. This is really good too! Next I ordered white fish. First tai. The topping was brushed with shoyu. This was good too. Then hirame and kanpachi. Delicious again! I really like the sushi here. Next came red fish, and I couldn't stop. Maguro akami, chutoro, and zuke, and then seeing the customer next to me eating shinko, I had it too! This one takes a lot of work and was very delicious! While I was at it I also had ikura and uni. I completely lost all restraint. Finally they had the rare kanpyo-maki, so I asked for it half-and-half with tekka-maki. The prep takes a lot of work, so you don't see it at ordinary sushi shops. The kanpyo is sweet and delicious. The texture is lovely. And that was it. I was full. I paid about 11,000 yen in cash. This is a hidden-gem sushi shop. For eating and drinking this much, that price is fair.
View on GoogleI had the lunch 12-piece set for 2,100 yen. The sake was Otokoyama Junmai Ginjo, a morikiri pour for 770 yen with superb surface tension. Both the sushi and the sake were delicious.
