Typical Japanese soba restaurant. Sakura ebi-ten(fried small shrimps) is very good.

The soba is delicious☆ It's crowded at lunchtime, but soba lovers should definitely go!! I could easily eat 2–3 trays of zaru soba☆ Lots of things are delicious, but I prefer the small shrimp to the shrimp tempura☆

I've arrived at Ontakesan Station on the Tokyu Ikegami Line. The Ontake shopping street spreads out in front of the station, but I'm heading to 海老民 on the street in front of Ontake Shrine, west of the station. It's a soba restaurant, but what an unusual name. When I passed before, I'd noticed this place and the pizza restaurant next door were busy~ Inside are 5 tables seating 4, plus 2 tables seating 4 in a raised tatami area. It's bustling with customers of all kinds. With the order placed, let's have some dry Kikusui (1 go, 600円税込) before the soba. Nicely chilled, with a refreshing sharpness as it goes down the throat. There are also several individual snacks available. From the set menu, I chose makanai tendon (1250円税込). You can choose udon or soba (hot or cold) with the set, so I picked hot soba. If you worked here, this is the staff meal you'd have waiting... (laughs) So makanai tendon turns out to be shrimp tendon. And there are 5 shrimp lined up (perhaps that has something to do with the restaurant's name...?). The tempura is fluffy, and the moderately sweet sauce goes well with the firm rice. Delicious. The egg and onion clear soup is tasty with a gentle saltiness. The soba is nihachi soba in hot broth, boiled a little soft. The bowl is small but deep, so it's quite a substantial portion. The broth is bonito-based, but smooth and mellow without any harshness, and delicious. It was a set meal satisfying in both taste and quantity. If you're curious, do give it a try.
