📍 Donhachi Shokudo どん八食堂 東糀谷店 🇯🇵 📅 Visited on 24 May 2026 Visited Donhachi Shokudo during our stay near Haneda Airport while looking for a local dining experience away from the tourist areas 🍚🐷🇯🇵 Located in a quiet neighbourhood near Otorii, this local restaurant was a pleasant surprise and gave us an opportunity to experience everyday Japanese dining before heading towards the Mount Fuji area. 🚶 The restaurant was easily accessible from our hotel area and made for a convenient lunch before collecting our rental car and starting our road trip. 🏠 What we enjoyed most was the local atmosphere. Most of the customers appeared to be local residents and workers, which gave the restaurant an authentic neighbourhood feel rather than a tourist-focused experience. 🤖 Ordering was done through a self-service kiosk machine, which was straightforward to use. During our visit, the kiosk accepted cash payment only, so it is worth preparing some Japanese yen before visiting. 💴 The cash-only ordering system made the experience feel very local and traditional compared to many modern restaurants that accept card payments. 🐷 We ordered the Pork Chop Teishoku (定食). The set meal was simple, hearty, and satisfying. The pork was well cooked and served together with rice, soup, and side dishes, making it a complete meal at a reasonable price. 🍚 Like many Japanese set meals, the portions were generous and filling. It was exactly the type of comforting meal we were looking for before beginning a long drive. 😋 While the food was not fancy, it felt like honest home-style Japanese cooking that locals would regularly enjoy. 💺 The dining environment was casual and comfortable. It felt like the kind of place where locals regularly return for reliable and affordable meals. 👨👩👦 Family-friendly and suitable for travellers looking to experience a more local side of Tokyo. 😊 Staff members were efficient, and despite the restaurant being busy, everything operated smoothly. 📸 While not a fancy restaurant, the local atmosphere and traditional Japanese dining experience made the visit memorable. 🌙 For travellers staying near Haneda Airport, this restaurant provides a nice alternative to airport dining or chain restaurants. 💡 Tips: 🚶 Convenient for travellers staying near Haneda Airport 🤖 Self-service kiosk ordering system 💴 Bring cash as the kiosk accepts cash only 🐷 Try the Pork Chop Teishoku set meal 🍚 Generous portions and good value for money 👨👩👦 Family-friendly dining option 🏠 Authentic local neighbourhood atmosphere 📸 Experience everyday Japanese dining culture 🌙 Great alternative to airport restaurants

View on GoogleI was staying in this area for 2 nights. Everything was good. Love their curry and they are very generous. Worth to go and try it
View on GoogleWow. What an amazing meal! I had a chicken and pork curry. I would number one, it was my favourite meal since arriving 2 weeks ago! The value for money was fantastic to begin with. A very generous portion for 1400 yen. The curry sauce was thick and super flavourful. It had a nice level of spice to it. Super tasty and a good generous portion over the big portion of rice. The cutlet was very crispy and nicely seasoned. The pork remained tender within creating a wonderful contrast. The balls of chicken were covered in some kind of batter with seasoning. Again super flavourful and crispy, while the meat within remained tender and juicy with plenty of flavour. A generous side serving of cabbage really added to the texture and flavour and made an already generously portioned meal very filling. You order with a ticket machine which makes it very simple. Money in, pick what you want. easy. You dont need to speak Japanese. I was greeted with a very warm smile, and kind gentleman who was going to explain how to order. After handing the ticket he told me the number in Japanese. San-ju ichiban. The atmosphere was quiet, with locals quietly chatting or focused on their food. Thank you for an amazing last meal in Japan! Oishii!
