Terrific service. They taught us how to correctly eat the soba, make the Wasabi and drink the sauce.
View on GoogleI visited for lunch. I ordered cold soba with hot meat broth and a small wasabi rice bowl. The soba is homemade and stone-ground, and the meat broth is piping hot with a flavorful dashi. The wasabi is fresh, grown by contracted farmers, and its sharp kick goes well with the bonito-flake rice. I was very satisfied.
View on GoogleI visited for Sunday lunch. It was before 12, with no other customers yet. There is parking for 1 car beside the restaurant. The entrance has a step and a sliding door. Inside, there are 6 seats at a large table and 4 tables seating 4 each in the tatami area. This time, I ordered ten seiro (large portion +¥300). Some menu items come with wasabi by default. You grate it on sharkskin while waiting for your food. Since I repeatedly grated it and transferred it to the plate, it didn't make for a nice photo…. The tempura consisted of 5 kinds of vegetables and shrimp tempura served with matcha salt. The soba condiments were green onion, grated daikon, and nori. You add just a pinch of nori for each bite to better appreciate its aroma. I enjoyed the delicious soba too. The relaxed atmosphere was nice as well.
View on GoogleA restaurant with delicious soba and fresh wasabi from Okutama. This was a repeat visit. I'm hooked on the small wasabi rice bowl. For the soba, you grate the wasabi yourself while waiting.
View on GoogleWhenever I visit this soba restaurant, the service makes me feel good, and they seem serious about their soba. Nihachi soba made with flour stone-ground in-house. The treat you won't find at other soba restaurants is, above all, the wasabi. A little while after ordering, fresh wasabi from Okutama and a sharkskin grater arrive. I imagine Okutama's cool scenery while enjoying the wasabi's aroma. I can't wait for the soba. I love this time so much I recommend putting the wasabi directly on the soba when eating. Also, the big mound of wasabi on the small wasabi rice bowl is wonderful. The aroma is strong, but the nose-tingling sensation is gentle, so I finish it in no time. It's a soba restaurant I love.
