昭和幻燈館Shōwa Gentō-kan
A mini museum with a cat motif, a sister museum of the Showa Retro Shohin Hakubutsukan (Showa Retro Goods Museum), set in a renovated general store dating from the early Showa era. On display are works by “cat artists” Arita Hiromi & Chabo-san and dioramas by Yamamoto Takaki depicting “Showa-era Ome”‼️ There are also works by Yamaguchi Mao, creator of the “Mao Neko” signboards found all over the Ome Sumiecho shopping street, plus a souvenir corner.

Very small but super cute!
View on GoogleThere is only one exhibition hall, which looks like a coffee shop. The tickets are 250 yen for adults and 150 yen for children. Inside are some models of the streets and buildings in the era of Yu Zhaohe, a cat doll!
View on GoogleI visited this place years ago and I still think about it and tell people to go here if they are in Ome.
View on Google7 minutes on foot from Ome Station on the JR Ome Line. After getting off at the station, head southeast along the old Ome Kaido. It's a little past the Showa Retro Shohin Hakubutsukan. It's a museum for enjoying “artworks with a cat motif.” It's hard to describe well, but it seems different from your typical local history museum. Ome City is a town of cats and retro. For people who like this kind of thing, Ome City really hits, hits, and hits them hard. A critical hit right on the sweet spot, head lopped off, plus it lands on a vital point — a decisive single shot. I'm contrarian, so I'm writing “single shot” instead of “single strike.” There's a limit to entertaining people with images, or with objects, but the people it hits will come on their own to get hit, so it's all good. Retro is justice, no doubt about it. And while we're at it, cats are justice too, because they're cute.
View on GoogleVisited on the afternoon of March 15, 2026 A shop along Ome Kaido, east of Ome Station in Ome City That day I rode a rental bike from Ome Station, went around here and there, then came here At the shop entrance they sell all kinds of Showa retro goods and cat goods Also, in the paid area at the back right, there are charming cat-character plushies by Arita Hiromi-san and Chabo-san, works by Yamaguchi Mao-san parodying movie signboards with cats, and Showa retro streetscape dioramas by diorama artist Yamamoto Takaki-san, and there was really a lot to see, I tell ya Lots of Yamaguchi Mao-san's parody movie signboards were posted on the walls of nearby shops and such, which was great There's a combo ticket with the sister museum(?) diagonally across the street, the Showa Retro Shohin Hakubutsukan, and that's how I got in
