Better to bring cash with you. Stopped by Sawanoi Garden after a hike, enjoyed some light snacks and plenty of fresh namazake for a super cheap price. You can also do a sake tasting, which is really affordable and comes with little ochoko cups. They close around 16:30, so go early. Highly recommend!

I often come here after hiking in Okutama. Depending on the season they stop selling food around 15:30~16:00 so try to come before then. Their menu changes with the season but you can reliably find soba or udon bowls and local products like meat and tofu. Their amazake is amazing in cooler weather! They have covered outdoor seating so you can enjoy it even in the rain or snow. If you have appropriate footwear, I recommend the walking loop path which connects Sawai to Mitake on either side of the river.

I visited here as part of a private tour but was not disappointed. There were plenty of tables available (Saturday PM) and there was a lovely atmosphere. We tried five different types of nihonshu and were not disappointed at all. A really beautiful place to spend an afternoon

We come here every time we visit Tokyo! It’s worth the two hour train ride (which is very scenic too). The owners are very kind and you can’t beat the price of the sake tasting: ¥200 for the first tasting which includes a sake cup that you keep and then ¥100 for every sample afterwards (some samples of higher end sake are ¥200 - ¥ 300). If you find a sake you love, you can purchase a chilled bottle at the store below and drink it at their outdoor tables. It is right next to a gorgeous river and a bell temple which means you sip sake to sound baths and running water (aka the dream). They sell food there too which is delicious ❤️ I cannot say enough about this place!

A collection of shops and eateries located on the other side of the brewery on route 411. Outside seating is relaxing, the river views were pretty nice, the service was quite good overall. Definitely worth a visit before and after touring the brewery.
