A municipal art museum standing along the Tama River, about a 6-minute walk from Ome Station. If you're driving from central Tokyo, the parking lot is on the left side along Ome Kaido. The lot next to the museum holds about 8 cars. A little further on, also on the left, you can park about 10 cars, but it's a safer bet to use the lot next to the museum. The further lot is unpaved and had vehicles that seemed to be parked without permission; I visited around noon on a Saturday and only about 2 spaces were open. By the way, parking is free. The museum costs 500 yen even for special exhibitions. It's on the way to Okutama, so it might be a nice place to satisfy your intellectual curiosity a little. In the museum, reception is on the right, and the lockers are on the right side of the corridor to the left. Past reception, the floors, including the stairs, are carpeted, which feels very easy on your legs and back. The first exhibition room is up the stairs on the left. The second exhibition room is on the right. The second exhibition room has a permanent display of paintings by Kojima Zentaro, who has local ties. When you turn back downstairs, there's the third exhibition room, which seems to serve as a citizens' gallery. If you go outside through the passage beside the third exhibition room, there's a café on the left; it's in a separate building from the museum and can be used on its own. From the window side of this café you can see the Tama River, and the space between it and the museum serves as terrace seating. The menu has not only drinks but also light meals, curry, cake, and more. It seems to be run by one woman on her own, but food and such come out smoothly without much of a wait. They also seem to sell items like ippitsusen notepaper inside.
View on GoogleA small art museum with just one permanent exhibition room and one special exhibition room. Unless there's a special exhibition you're interested in, I don't think you'd often make a special trip here. The view from the observation window is spectacular. The restrooms were clean.
View on GoogleSecond visit. There was an exhibition of large folding-screen paintings. They have a Kojima Zentaro collection. 2023/4/23 First visit. Ceramics were on display. 2022/12/14
View on GoogleI didn't go to the museum, but to the café attached to it. I think it's a hidden gem where you can eat while taking in a wide-open view. The curry was tasty too.
View on GoogleParking is next door to the west, and one more lot further west (unpaved) Exhibition spaces: medium-sized x2 Viewing time is probably around 15 to 40 minutes
