We got a guided tour and the gentleman was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. He did not speak English, only Japanese. Lots of authentic historical Japanese artifacts spanning centuries. The museum is modestly sized.
View on GoogleWonderful place to learn about kimono history from an enthusiastic expert! The museum opening times and days vary by seasons so it's always a good idea to either give them a call or ask a local tourist information.
View on GoogleWe visited the museum on Friday morning and had the place all to ourselves. The manager guided us and explained in details all the exhibits, using a translation application. We found it very interesting and could ask many questions which were answered patiently. At the end he called a taxi for us, and while we were waiting he and his wife invited us to a lovely cup of tea with crackers and gave us a few presents. It was a wonderful visit and we are very grateful for the learning experience and the hospitality. s
View on GoogleIt's tough to come to Ome just for this place, but the director himself guided us around the museum, and being able to see kimono along with their historical background was educational. They also display genuine Imperial Family costumes and gifts, so I got to see valuable things you rarely get to see! I think 800 yen is cheap, but there's an extra 200 yen discount available from sites like Asoview! Note that you can't photograph things like the Imperial costumes, so go see them for yourself!
View on GoogleA museum run by a director with a really strong personality. He's the only one there, yet he gives full explanations, so when multiple groups visit it gets chaotic. Basically the style is: there's an object, and he explains it. It doesn't explain things like the evolutionary process that led to it. Is it worth 800 yen? Hmm, kind of debatable..
