Went in mid May. There were very few hikers and the trail was kind of dark with lots of spider webs. Not recommended if you go by yourself! However when you reach the top of Mt. Akabokko, you will know that it is worth all the trouble with the spiders. The view was really great, you get to see mountains of Okuyama and the small city below. We enjoyed the cool breeze and had a relaxing break!
View on GoogleReally nice, easy trail in the hills above southern Ome
View on GoogleBeautiful views and one big tree on the top of this mountain.
View on GoogleAlthough Akabokko is a low mountain, the view is wonderful, and you can relax while leisurely eating or drinking coffee. The hike is easy, and since the trail is maintained by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, even beginners can reach it safely.
View on GoogleWonderful view. The sky was a bit cloudy, but I could clearly see the panorama: Skytree, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, Seibu Dome, central Ome, all the way toward Okutama! I hope it stays like this without being overly developed. When accessing Akabokko by car, I heard the most convenient parking is "Kamanofuchi Park Parking," so I used it. There was an event at the park that day, so the free lot was full and the paid lot was full too, but I got in after about 15 minutes. 1. Kamanofuchi Park Parking (free) • Capacity: about 13 cars • Fee: free • Note: since there are few spaces, it's likely to be full early in the morning on weekends and holidays 2. Kamanofuchi Park Parking (paid) • Capacity: about 80 cars • Fee: 100円/1 hour • Note: can be used as an alternative when the free lot is full. ※The entrance from the main road is a bit hard to find. Look for the 【郷土資料館】 (Local History Museum) sign 🥾 Hiking route (from Kamanofuchi Park to Akabokko) 1. Starting point: Kamanofuchi Park Parking 2. Route: parking lot → Old Futatsuzuka Pass → Mahikizawa Pass → Akabokko summit → Mahikizawa Pass → Meiji Bridge → parking lot 3. Time required: about 2 hours 40 minutes (loop course) ⸻ 🚻 Toilet & convenience store info • Toilets: there are toilets available 24 hours inside Kamanofuchi Park. • Convenience stores: there are no convenience stores around the parking lot, so it's recommended to stop by one beforehand.
