Enjoyed the Sui course set during summer. Was a peaceful meal with welcoming service. A good meal with a mix of lighter and stronger flavours that paired with sake flight. The tofu flavours were strong in the steamed tofu, yuba, imitation eel and even the miso soup (:
View on GoogleI found this place on a travel blog that recommended all the attractions around Mitake Gorge, and we learned that there is the Ozawa Sake Brewery, which also manages a tofu-based kaiseki restaurant, Mamagotoya, where you get to try many types of local tofu and yuba as well as a sake flight from the brewery. We made a reservation in advance and luckily picked just the Flower course (¥4,500) with 7 dishes instead of the Maple course (¥6,300), because it turned out we were super full anyway. We also chose the private room but didn’t expect such a large space for 10 people, with a view of the Tama River for 4 of us. Enjoying delicious comfort food while gazing at the mesmerizing natural scenery as our backdrop was truly a blessing. The staff were very polite and helpful, even though we conversed in Japanese, of which I understand only about 30%, and she slowly brought us food from appetizers to the main course, including sashimi and a variety of tofu (to be honest, that was my first time trying so many types of tofu in my life), yubamaki sushi with the most elaborate fish balls in miso soup, and of course their seasonal bento called "The First Day of Spring," consisting of grilled salted fish, cured meats, okra, shrimp, and other types of tofu (this one was super yummy!) and the dessert was strawberry and dried persimmons shaped like a rose. That just resonated so well with the whole experience, highly recommend for anyone who loves tofu!
View on GoogleGood kaiseki with a nice view but a little pricey for lunch, given it’s out of the city. Overall great experience.
