はちのこ食堂@Kabe 【Today's recommendation】Omurice with menchi katsu ¥980 Lunch at a bright red, casual diner right near the south exit of Kabe Station. Their top recommendations are 「Stamina donburi」 topped with stamina stir-fry and a fried egg, and 「Stamina dokamori」 with even more rice and chicken katsu as well❗️ The wide selection of yakiniku, karaage, tonkatsu, ramen, fried rice, and more makes it hard to choose, but the 「Today's recommendation」 on the blackboard was omurice, so I instinctively ordered the one with menchi katsu❗️ The ketchup rice wrapped in a well-cooked omelet has plenty of onions❗️ I thought it would be chicken, but pork adds the savory flavor. The menchi katsu seemed a little like a premade product, but the wakame and tofu miso soup had a comforting, gentle taste. With Stamina donburi and Stamina dokamori being their recommendations, I expected a huge, hearty portion, but it was fairly average. Next time, I think I'll try 「Stamina dokamori」 lol. It felt like a 「true set-meal diner」, the kind that's become less common lately, where I could enjoy a proper meal casually. Even with prices rising, none of the menu items exceeded 1000円, which I appreciated. That day, I ordered the daily mixed set meal. With rice, pickles, and miso soup included for 980円 including tax, it was satisfying. The staff were pleasant, too, and it's a place I'd like to visit again.

I ordered the extra-large yakiniku set meal with a large portion of rice for 1080円. The silver plate is nice. Despite being close to the station, there are 3 free parking spaces nearby.

A diner with everyday prices and a gentle atmosphere that never feels intimidating! Its design feels nostalgic from the storefront to the interior. It isn't flashy, but for those of us from the Showa generation, it's like an oasis for the heart! Step inside and you'll find a long counter and tables, with the owner welcoming you with a smile! That alone somehow lifts your spirits, and delicious food and a soothing drink leave you feeling refreshed! Everyone, please come see はちのこ食堂, where that atmosphere still remains! Lots of people arrived as soon as it opened, quickly filling half the seats, with takeout orders coming in, too. The tanmen is simmered, with no stir-frying step. Contrary to the impression given by the interior, the people running the shop are young. The name はちのこ comes from the husband's father running an izakaya called 「はちまん」 in Ome. They opened a shop that was like its child, so the child of はちまん became はちのこ; it doesn't mean bee larvae.
