This place is so nice. You can see all the exhibits of the different species and historical sites that we can see in Ogasawara. They provide brochures and seminars for the tourists and villagers who wanted to learn more about the history of the island
View on GoogleAt the Ogasawara Visitor Center, half the exhibits cover the history of the Ogasawara Islands and the other half explain nature such as plants and insects, so you can learn about the islands in a well-balanced way. It was the perfect facility for getting an overall picture of the islands right after arriving. However, be aware that it's only open from the morning the Ogasawara Maru arrives until the evening it departs. If you plan to visit during your stay, it's best to check the timing and drop by early.

If you want to learn everything about these islands as quickly as possible, this place will definitely not disappoint you. There are even books related to the Ogasawara language. The staff were also very helpful and answered many of my questions. The museum also features a very large number of exhibits, with highly detailed introductions to both the history and ecology of the Ogasawara Islands. If you want to quickly understand everything about this island chain, this is definitely a place that will not disappoint you. There are even books related to the Bonin English. The staff were also very friendly and enthusiastic, and they helped answer many of my questions.
View on GoogleYou can learn an overview of Ogasawara for free. The woman on staff kindly answered my questions while keeping a natural distance. I recommend visiting. By the way, Omura Beach in front of the visitor center is a sea turtle nesting site, and apparently you can see their "traces." The next day, I walked across the beach looking for those "traces"; there was lots of coral, but in the end I didn't find any. To escape the heat I took a break at the visitor center; I went into the screening room for the chairs, but they showed me two films, "History of Ogasawara" and "Iwo Jima." "Iwo Jima" in particular was precious footage of an island rarely seen, and it was excellent. It's a shame it isn't available to the public. Please do visit here and watch it. The "observation deck and Miyanohama walk" and "Futami Bay boat cruise" on the port-of-call sightseeing tour were also good, but this was the most memorable place of my visit to Ogasawara this time.
