Bought oden ingredients at “Daisei Kamaboko,” a shop selling homemade oden ingredients in Hibarigaoka! Founded in Showa 43(1968), Daisei Kamaboko is a 2-minute walk from Hibarigaoka Station! A specialist oden ingredient shop that sources fresh raw fish from Toyosu and handmakes hanpen, tsumire, satsuma-age, and more! Prices start at 90 yen each, making the great value another delight! Their specialty is “handmade hanpen,” made by shaping minced shortfin mako and blue shark in wooden molds and boiling it, preserving traditional craftsmanship and handmade flavor! It even won the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Award at the National Kamaboko Competition! I bought ginkgo, shiitake, shiso rolls, quail egg, hanpen, beef tendon, and chikuwabu. Fried items such as satsuma-age are also made from raw fish, without eggs as a binder or preservatives, so they're reassuring, healthy, and full of quality protein! A cold February… With daikon and konnyaku added, dinner was oden! Oden at home! Daisei Kamaboko's oden ingredients really are delicious! Oden warms you right to the core!

A fish-paste specialty shop on Ichiban-dori shopping street at Hibarigaoka's north exit. Various fried kamaboko are lined up in the glass display, and behind it you can watch them being made and fried. They're delicious in oden, lightly grilled with ginger soy sauce, or simmered in a sweet-savory sauce, but the best way is piping hot, freshly fried. When my child was in kindergarten, I often included them in lunchboxes. There are fillings children love, like shumai, sausages, and cheese. With different varieties, they could have them every day. Soft, easy to eat, nutritious fish, slow to spoil, and above all handmade and trustworthy—an excellent side dish. The bagged “oden” at the storefront is also recommended. I buy it with extra ingredients I like added. The other day I added suji (fish), which was delicious too. I sometimes bring them as gifts when visiting friends or relatives. They're always very well received.

A shop specializing in homemade oden ingredients. Located on a shopping street, with oden ingredients lined up out front. They also sell complete packs of oden. I bought a few to try, and the hanpen was thick, firmer than usual, and very tasty. The ones with shiitake or shumai were unusual and delicious too.

A shop worth making a special trip to, even from far away. I came for oden ingredients, and I think it's rare to find fried items elsewhere this springy and full of the ingredients' character. The fried balls have a particularly surprising texture, enough to make me want to return just for them. The service is gentle, with the nostalgic charm of an independent shop from the Showa era. Everything is exceptionally delicious, so you should try it at least once.
