A really interesting museum, great to learn about the history and geology of the island. Most of the displays had been translated to English, including a few sound bites. Spent a good hour wondering around. The surf board exhibit upstairs was really interesting and make sure you don’t miss seeing the reconstructed house just before you reach the museum. And for only ¥300 you can’t go wrong! Would be great for kids as they have a Niijima/Japanese toy area
View on GoogleVery nice little museum, with a surprisingly strong English offering. Great information about the island, covering everything from volcanoes to convicts to fisherman to surfboards. Highly recommended, especially on a muggy afternoon with poor surfing.
View on Google¥300 cash only Huge relaxed museum High quality Eng and Japanese explanation If you are serious to watch or listen video, you can stay even 2 hours Quite and good to relax Very steep to ride the bicycle right in front of the museum But I could pull bicycle in the end to the parking lot
View on GoogleMeanwhile I have been at least 5 times to this museum. Whenever I am at Niijima with friends, I take them to this museum first. It is very interesting, informative exhibition about the geology, history, and traditions of this island. Highly recommended. Do not forget to visit the adjacent kogaishi house.
View on GoogleInteresting place to spend some time (especially weather is not good) but not must-visit place for everybody.
