I ordered a large mori soba, and it really was large. This rarely happens, but the portion was so substantial that I thought I might not finish it. The cash-only payment is a minus, though.

『Right now, Soba me wow wow』 Entered at 11:17 on a weekday. Had a large kamo seiro. I saw a TikTok about the enormous portions and made a lightning visit. Maybe it's because I've become a diabetic middle-aged guy, but sometimes I desperately crave a mountain of soba, so I jumped at this chance. They open at 11:15, and I entered at 11:17, but there were already 2 parties inside. Another 2 parties arrived just after I sat down. You can tell the locals love it. The soba arrived shortly, and it really was mountainous; no matter how much I ate, I couldn't see the bottom. But the deep flavor of the duck dipping broth keeps it from getting boring. Although it's piled high as in the photo, I don't think it's beyond what an ordinary middle-aged guy could finish. But, but, buuut, impressive as the portions are, the greatest attraction is the atmosphere. No unnecessary background music, just a clean yet characterful interior that tickles this Showa nostalgia nerd's heart, warm service from the ladies, and a bellyful of soba. No glittering façades needed; it reminds you that this is happiness. I hope good places like this prosper for many years.

I had tenmori for 1,050円. The soba comes in a large portion that looks about 1.5 times what other restaurants serve. Very long noodles are packed tightly together. Children might struggle to control how much they put into the tempura dipping sauce, haha. The tempura is crispy: 2 shrimp and 1 piece of pumpkin. Both are large, and even dipping them into the sauce takes effort. With this much food, even a big guy would be completely satisfied. The proprietress is efficient and full of kindness. She refills your water without being asked and provides soba cooking water from the start. She sees you off with a smile when you pay. Please note that payment is cash only😄

NEW (20251211) The north wind was howling, so I ordered curry nanban (udon). I was surprised when it arrived. Not yellow, but deep brown… slightly thick slices of pork (a little tough), and green peas. As I've reported before, the udon is loooong too. First, I tasted the curry. Sweet-salty flavors first, followed by curry flavor. Extremely thick at first… gradually turning watery. Personally, I prefer chicken. (20250602) The soba is looong. I took a photo. This place is wonderfully generous with its service, but I'm deliberately, deliberately offering a criticism. The table in front of the air conditioner gets too much direct airflow… so the soba dries out quickly. Unless you eat fast, the looong noodles tangle together, become hard to lift, and lose half their deliciousness. That table should be reserved for people ordering hot dishes or fast eaters (with their agreement). It's genuinely a place to be grateful for. Good soba without off-flavors (light and pale). Depending on how I feel, I sometimes leave some even with a regular portion. People coming alone (regulars?) order fewer noodles… they know. NEWNEW Yesterday (20250307), I visited around 1:30 in the afternoon, but they had closed because they'd sold out… Oh no! What a shame! NEW An addition. A regular soba portion is a little over 1.5 times other places'… and the noodles are long too! With cold soba servings, dipping them into the soba cup might be a little tricky? It's better to pick up small amounts with your chopsticks. One more request… a little more dipping sauce, please. OLD Delicious! But the portions are enormous. The ladies' service… lovely. The soba tea served first… lovely. I always order mori soba. Now, pay attention. You even get 1 quail egg. Do other places do that? The dipping sauce doesn't have an overly sharp soy-sauce taste either. Delicious. The soba cooking water is thick. Be very careful with the large portions.

A visit after 1 year. I entered just after opening, and it was full 10 minutes later. They said it would take time, and the food arrived 40 minutes later. 2 large tenmori. It had been a while since I'd seen the kitchen in such a panic. Soba piled into a mountain. It's difficult to pick some up without spilling it. I feel the dipping sauce is stronger than before. Just a feeling, though. The noodles are firm and delicious. Perhaps because they were busy, they weren't drained enough, and water was dripping onto the tray. With only 2 people in the kitchen, perhaps it couldn't be helped. The tempura was 1 slice of pumpkin and 2 shrimp. It felt a little overfried, but that meant I could even eat the shrimp tails, which I normally don't. Oh well. It was a lunch that really drove home the lesson that if you want to eat quickly, you should queue before opening. A visit after a long while. Finally tackling the rice dishes. Katsudon. I'm glad I didn't also order mori soba with the thought that coming to a soba restaurant without ordering soba feels wrong. Even the regular katsudon was ridiculously huge. I considered giving up halfway through but somehow finished it. The large tenmori is substantial too, but it's still a lightweight. The true champion was the katsudon. A visit after almost 1 year. It was apparently going to get hot again today, so I debated tenmori versus katsudon until the last moment, then tried the large tenmori. The soba had no broken strands and a firm bite. Unfortunately, the dipping sauce was weak, so I submerged the noodles completely. The tempura was crunchy like fritters. The soba, piled to about twice the regular amount, was impressive. Being able to enjoy this for just 100円 extra is quite a bargain. Maybe a large katsudon next time? But going to a soba restaurant without ordering soba weighs on my conscience. Decisions, decisions! I'd decided on soba for lunch on this hot day. The question was where to go. I'd settled on tendon and mori soba, but looking at menus and food photos, nowhere quite appealed. So I chose this place, known for its portions. I started with tenmori as an introduction. However, it didn't look especially large. More than other places, yes. They probably had to reduce portions because of rising costs. The fairly low price is a saving grace, I suppose. Tasting the dipping sauce, it seemed weak? Typical Sarashina sauce, but without impact. The soba wasn't drained well either, so the sauce quickly lost its flavor. The noodles seemed slightly undercooked. Not firm in a chewy way, but undercooked. Still, these noodles might stay firm and taste good served hot. The tempura was proper soba-shop tempura, which was good. With mori soba, you'd need a rice dish too; with tenmori, you'd need a large portion to feel satisfied. Next time, I'd like to stick to my original plan of tendon and mori soba.
