A recent addition near Oizumigakuen station, Shikyoku (紫極) serves rich pork bone ramen. You can customize your bowl in three ways - the firmness of the noodles, amount of oil, and depth or strength of the soup’s flavor. Their ramen certainly has a distinct taste and a not so ordinary ramen topping in the form of spinach. I like their ramen but I wouldn’t really come here as often as once a month. There is nothing much about the store’s interior design but the countertop is unusually wide so there’s more than enough space for your bowl of ramen, rice and water. It’s a good example of convenience trumping appearance. The staff cleans the kitchen regularly after business hours. It makes me wonder if they skip cleaning the dining area. The dining floor was slimy and slippery during the times we came here.
View on GoogleI visited because I was curious after hearing it was affiliated with the popular “紫極” in Saitama Shintoshin. This time I had チャーシュー麺 and complimentary rice. The soup is a very rich pork-bone soy sauce broth, but even with the flavor strength set to normal, it's quite salty. Personally, it was salty enough to be difficult without rice and water. However, pairing nori or char siu with rice gives that Iekei-style junk-food appeal and is quite satisfying. The char siu is large and substantial. The noodles also matched the rich soup well. One thing that concerned me was that the staff looked quite tired, stretching and hanging their heads, which made the atmosphere a little heavy. Perhaps it was a busy time. I think this will appeal to people who like Iekei ramen with a powerful, intense flavor.
View on GoogleOrdered firm noodles, normal flavor, and less oil When the bowl arrived, I was a little taken aback by the small portion and added rice for ¥50-. The spinach goes very well with the strong soup, and putting soup-soaked nori on the rice gives a satisfaction that makes you feel you could eat bowl after bowl, so please do order rice. (I had a refill too) The staff's very pleasant manner also made this restaurant memorable.
View on GoogleVisited around 17 on a weekday. It was quiet, with about 3 customers already there. This day I had “ラーメン.” 950円. As usual, strong flavor and extra oil. It's what is known as Iekei. The soup is reddish brown and has a strong pork-bone character even without increasing the flavor strength! A robust, very delicious pork-bone soy sauce soup. Even with extra oil, it doesn't form a layer of chicken oil on the surface. The noodles have a square cross-section and are short, the standard noodles from 酒井製麺; no disappointment here either! The toppings also feel textbook: spinach, 1 slice of char siu, and 3 sheets of nori. The char siu tastes good, but the pieces are small and cut fairly thin, making it a little unsatisfying. Unusually these days, this shop offers free rice with refills! I think it's in the very delicious category of Iekei in Tokyo. The staff are pleasant, the opening hours long, and it's very close to 大泉学園 station, making it extremely convenient. A highly recommendable Iekei ramen!
View on GoogleI went around lunchtime on Saturday. After buying a meal ticket, I waited in line a little, but was seated fairly soon. There were many reassuring touches for first-time visitors, including not only a chart of ordering preferences but also guidance on how to fully enjoy 紫極. Remarkably, rice is free for students, and even for nonstudents it's free at 17, a welcome service in these times. The ramen was delicious, with the strong soup, char siu, generous spinach, and nori combining well with the noodles. You could change the flavor using the condiments on the table. The garlic in particular went well with rice, and I was very satisfied.
