A vigilant, stoic, and busy ramen joint in north of Hikarigaoka park where I wouldn’t have found unless a hiccup of my schedule. Ramen is old school Tokyo style Tonkotsu broth with lots of “back fat” reminding of 90s. Soup flavor is Shoyu. The menu is super limited, and the staffs are literally stoic without customer service. This place is for eating ramen and leave right after. Nobody has convo nor chats nor BGM. Comes with a plenty of volume. I got it with slices onions. Opens at 11:30, and I got there on time, but counter was already full. There’s no other ramen restaurants nearby. That’s probably why.

It had been over 10 years since my last visit, and I came in around 11:30 on Saturday. You can't tell whether they're open until you get right in front of the shop. I was able to sit down as soon as I entered. I ordered からとん, a large portion, 煮バラ, and a seasoned egg, and the bowl arrived in about 10 minutes. It felt punchier than before, but perhaps that's because I've gotten older? I thought each ingredient had been prepared with real care. People who love back fat might find it a little lacking, but it was just right for me. Definitely recommended if you're visiting the Nerima Takamatsu area.

I revisited 「とんこつラーメン めんくい」 in Hikarigaoka after several years. Even after so long, the unchanged tonkotsu aroma and mellow broth really conveyed the shop's distinctive character. That day, I added ニクバラ to the tonkotsu ramen and ordered a half portion of rice too. The cloudy white broth wasn't too heavy and was easy to drink, pairing perfectly with the thin noodles. The added ニクバラ was tender, with the sweetness of its fat providing a lovely accent, and it was fantastic with rice. There were many local regulars inside, with a relaxed atmosphere for eating. I think it's a reliable spot when you want a quick, delicious tonkotsu meal in Hikarigaoka.
