Shou-chan Ramen" in Shin-Nakano really makes me realize once again that neighborhood Chinese food is the best. Honestly, let’s set aside any concerns about the cleanliness of the interior for a moment (lol)—this is a place to enjoy the generous portions, the flavor, and the atmosphere. The Chinese food tastes absolutely amazing when eaten in this lively, down-to-earth setting. If you come here, you absolutely must order the [Wood Ear Mushroom and Pork Set Meal + Half Ramen]. This is the golden ticket at Sho-chan. With its crisp wood ear mushrooms and rich seasoning, you won’t be able to stop eating the rice. The half ramen that comes with it is an old-school soy sauce ramen with a comforting flavor. It has just the right presence—not overpowering the main dish. If you’re feeling energetic, definitely go for the large rice portion. And you can’t miss the fried rice either. It’s rich in oil and has a toasty aroma—a flavor that will really hit the spot for fans of neighborhood Chinese food. It’s the perfect spot when you want to eat your fill without any pretensions. If you want to experience the full essence of neighborhood Chinese cuisine, Shou-chan Ramen is definitely the place to go.

Not sure why it gets lots of great reviews. It’s just a normal neighborhood restaurant. I had the Gyoza and fried rice. The fried rice had too much soy sauce in it, it even was dark in color. The Gyoza was OK, but I had the distinct feeling that it had dried bonito inside. Definitely a fishy taste which didn’t suit my palate. It was full of customers coming in and out, so it’s definitely a popular local place. The husband and wife are elderly and work hard. Maybe it’s just not my taste

I don't normally write reviews, but I will make an exception here. I have lived in Tokyo for 6 years now, and this has been my favorite restaurant in the city since I found it. Even after moving across town to a different ward, I make a point to drop by as often as I can. The highlight is definitely the fried rice, but everything I have tried has been great. If you ask the owner, he will even make the fried rice custom for you (e.g. make it spicy, extra benishoga). The owner himself is kind, but a bit quiet. Meanwhile, his Chinese-Malaysian wife is genuinely funny and speaks conversational English. There used to be a young guy who would work night shifts, but I have not seen him around for a while. He was fun to chat with. Overall, this is a great neighborhood spot, and I would strongly recommend it to any non-Japanese in the area who is looking for a genuine "local" experience.
