A 4-minute walk from the north exit of Kichijoji Station, this is 「SHUTTERS(シャッターズ)吉祥寺」, a stylish Italian restaurant with the feel of a standalone house. We offer a casual setting to enjoy authentic Italian favorites such as pasta, centered on our signature 「スペアリブ」, which has received extensive media coverage. Our prized spare ribs are so tender that the meat falls off the bone with just a fork, no knife needed—a superb dish you won't forget after one taste. Several flavors are available, including shoyu and salt and pepper, and takeaway is also offered, making them perfect for parties at home or as a side dish. The interior spans 2 floors, with the 1st floor…

I enjoyed my experience at Shutters. I was also pleasantly surprised with the food. Their signature dish appears to be spare ribs. I don't generally care for ribs but these were excellent! The meat fell off the bone, and the sauce lent itself perfectly. The atmosphere is quaint yet stylish. The variety of dishes was appreciated. No complaints!

Had a late lunch with family walking towards the station. Not bad at all. Tried 3 flavours of the ribs, surprisingly salt & pepper was my favourite. The thickest and most tender pork spare ribs from a western restaurant I have tried.

The food is not good. Noddle is not fully cooked and is too salty. They recooked the noodles but is still hard to eat and this time it has no favorite. The meat is too fat. We order a set menu, which didn’t say it change by person. The final price comes out really high. We ending up paying 45$. It was very expensive. They have English menu. The English menu is shorter than the Japanese one. We don’t know Japanese so we don’t know the difference there. The price is very surprise us.

It becomes apparent rather quickly that this establishment is designed with Japanese customers—and Japanese customers alone—in mind. Accessing the menu, let alone placing an order, requires the use of LINE, a messaging application whose popularity appears to stop firmly at Japan’s borders. Consequently, a working command of Japanese is not merely helpful, but essential. One may eventually discover that an English version of the menu does exist. However, this revelation comes only after installing LINE and completing several registration steps, all conducted entirely in Japanese. This rather defeats the purpose. The LINE-based ordering system itself is remarkably inconvenient, which leads one to suspect—perhaps unfairly—that it functions as a subtle deterrent to non-Japanese patrons. As a customer, I have no particular wish to form a lasting digital friendship with the restaurant. I simply wish to order food. The process feels unnecessarily laborious, especially when dining in a group, where one person must manage the ordering while others are left without access to the menu. I once visited with a foreign friend, but asking them to install and register LINE solely for this occasion was, quite obviously, out of the question. Regrettably, this is an establishment I could not, in good conscience, recommend to foreign visitors.
