Sakana -io-
"魚-io-(イオ)" in Kichijoji is a newly opened Japanese izakaya, a 3-minute walk from Kichijoji Station, along Kichijoji-dori and right next to Inokashira Park. Centered on seasonal fish dishes and sake, it lets you spend special time at a relaxed pace in a calm space. The name comes from "魚=いお" (fish = io) in the dialect of the southern Kii Peninsula, and reflects the wish for guests to enjoy fresh fish. The sake lineup also includes rare labels such as "新政(あらまさ)No.6" and "飛露喜(ひろき)純米大吟醸". The interior has 24 seats in total: 4 at the counter and 20 at tables. The simple, refined interior is perfect for solo diners, dates, dinner gatherings, and more. Around Inokashira Park, Japanese food and a wide range of …

I used to live in Japan in the 90’s and am back for the first time in over 30 years with my family. We’re staying near Shinjuku and I couldn’t find anything like the izakayas I used to frequent back in the day. My partner and I had to venture all the way to Kichijoji to find it. The restaurant is cosy and charming but with a cool vibe. The service is impeccable…attentive without being obtrusive. And the food….amazing. Even if you don’t read Japanese, don’t let that deter you. If you speak a bit, Google Translate will get you through. That being said, would go with the daily recommendations. We had the sashimi moriawase (sample), seafood salad, unagi (eel). It’s worth venturing out to try. Highly recommend!
View on GoogleSooo incredible. Service, atmosphere, food, sake. The sake was a special treat, you can tell that they take care with every piece of the restaurant.
View on GoogleWe wanted a place that severed authentic Japanese food to locals … we found it to be exactly what we were looking for. Awesome food at a reasonable price.
View on GoogleAmazing little place which is hidden away a little, with an awesome host serving great food and great sake. The price seemed almost a steal for what we got - a big plate of sashimi, salmon, additional dish and generous pour of a very good sake, even ignoring the tourist-heavy, popular location. Looks like they have some pretty epic whiskey options too, if that's your thing!
View on GoogleGreat little bar outside the busy part of Kichijoji. We went there for lunch and they had several options to choose from (fish or chicken). I had the karage which was very nicely fried, crispy enough but not too oily. The food took a little bit to come but the staff was friendly and they also had a good selection of drinks. Would definitely return to check it out for dinner
